Hello!
I'm Maekata Atomaru, an archaeological researcher.
In my blog, I'll introduce you to ancient tombs (KOFUN) and archaeological
sites all over Japan in the style of a travelogue!
What's the memorable first installment?
In the middle of Tokyo!
It's the Shibamaruyama KOFUN, right in front of Tokyo Tower!
What is it?
I can't quite make out the shape, but if you look at it from above, it's a keyhole-shaped tomb!
It's 106 meters long!
If you look at it from the side, it looks like a bear lying on its right side with its belly caved in!
It was built in the AC400~, so at that time, Japan was the country of WA!
five kings of Japan were paying tribute to the Chinese dynasty each generation!
The five kings of Japan were San, Chin, Sei, Koh, and Bu.
In the Nihon Shoki,(A history of Japan compiled in Japan 1300 years ago.) it seems to refer to one of the following emperors: Ojin, Nintoku, Richu, Hanzei, Ingyo, Ankou, and Yuryaku!
Almost certain is that "Bu" (yamatakeru)= Emperor Yuryaku!
Iron swords found in burial mounds in Saitama and Kumamoto prefectures proved it!
But enough of that!
This is what it looks like when you go up to the top of the tomb!
It was cut down a lot during the Edo period.
I can't really see the ups and downs, but it's square in the back and circular in the front!
If you compare it to your businessman brother, you'll see how big it is!
Is that a power stone in the lower left corner?
It looks like it!
Maybe it's a stone that was part of the original stone chamber of the tomb!
It's said to be the tomb of one of the greatest chiefs of Southern Musashi!
While you're at the Tokyo Tower, why don't you take a look around?
It's probably the biggest tomb in Tokyo!
