最近まで日本一の円墳といわれた
③丸墓山（まるはかやま）古墳だ！

前回の愛宕塚古墳を過ぎて左手に
古代蓮の池をめぐる「石田堤」を進むと木々の間から巨大な山が現れる。

同古墳群最大の二子山古墳（全長138ｍ）が
前方後円墳形で築造されているなかで、
ナゼ日本最大級の円墳でなければならなかったのか謎となっている。

余談・・2021年4月現在、日本最大の円墳とされているのが、

高さでいうと丸墓山の方がはるかに高い。
