Today, I'd like to introduce... Tokyo's Ancient Tombs (KOFUN) Part 2:
府中市に潜むUFO型古墳！
UFO-shaped KOFUN hiding in Fuchu City!
東京のど真んに府中市（ふちゅうし）という人口26万人の中核都市がある。
In the middle of Tokyo, there is a core city with a population of 260,000 called Fuchu City.
645年の大化の改新後に武蔵国の国府がおかれていた。
where the national capital of Musashi Province was located around 645.
大國魂（おおくにたま）神社をはじめ古墳や古代の遺跡が多い。
江戸時代には甲州街道の宿場町「府中宿」もあった。
The city has many ancient ruins, including the Okunitama Shrine and many
ancient tombs (kofun). In the Edo period (1603-1868), there was a futyu yado,
a post town on the Koshu Kaido highway.
その地にJR南武（なんぶ）線と京王（けいおう）線が走っていて
分倍河原（ぶばいがわら）駅から5分程度の駅近にあるのが・・・
A five-minute walk from BUBAIGAWARA Station on the JR NANBU LINE and
KEIO LINE lines that run through the area is...
突如として住宅地にあらわれるそのお姿は・・・
まるでUFO！
Suddenly, it appears in a residential area like a UFO!
陽の光に照らされて神々しい！
It looks like a god descended from the sun!

Let's get back to the story!
高倉塚古墳は、高倉古墳群（約30基）の中心的古墳
直径２０Mを測る高さは５Mほどの円墳
This tomb is one of the representative tombs (KOFUN) of the Takakura Tumulus Group (about 30 tombs), A circular mound with a diameter of 20 meters and a height of about 5 meters.
名前は奈良時代に国分寺を作った高倉さんに由来しているとも。
The name of the tomb is said to be derived from Mr. Takakura, who built the
Kokubunji Temple in the Nara Period.
古墳の下層から
From the lower layers of the tomb,
土師器（はじき）杯
（焼成温度が700-800度の弥生式土器）
cups made of earthenware (an earthenware technique from the Yayoi period with
a firing temperature of 700-800 degrees Celsius),
銀象嵌（ぎんぞうがん）太刀
（太刀の柄部分に銀を埋め込んだ）
swords with silver inlays,
水晶の切子玉などが発掘されている。
and crystal faceted beads have been excavated,
古墳がつくられたのは
AC500年～550年（6世紀前半）らしい。
suggesting that the tomb was built between 500 and 550 AC
(the first half of the 6th century).
名前の由来と時代があわないが
すくなくとも大化の改新より150年以上昔からあった！
地理上では多摩川の自然堤防である府中崖線（がいせん）のうえに
集落が発達し、そこを治めていた長のお墓かもしれない。
Regardless of the origin of its name, it may be the tomb of a chief who
ruled over a village that developed on a natural embankment created by
the erosion of the Tama River over 1,500 years ago.
それにしても府中市民がよく残しておいてくれたものだ！
昔の住人が知らんぷりして削ってしまっていたら
The citizens of Fuchu have left it to us for 1500 years!
今頃建売住宅５棟3億円で売られてたな！
今でも十分住宅地に押され気味なのに！
We could sell five houses now! Even now, it's being eroded by enough residential areas!
