He is now considered a demon. But we must not forget that at the time, he was a hero who saved Germany.
His passion awakened the passions of dying Germans. After losing World War I, they were burdened with enormous reparations that would likely not be paid off for decades.
His speeches were brilliant and moved the hearts of Germans. He was filled with patriotism and sincerely desired Germany's revival. Everyone was enthralled by him.
He gained power legally. He used various methods, tactics, and violence. Many wealthy people and intellectuals helped him. His policies were successful one after another. Germany recovered and began rearmament. It was called a "miraculous recovery."
It was no wonder that everyone was shouting "Heil Hitler!" They believed Hitler's words as if they were the word of God.
The dark side of these successes was the persecution of the Jews. Hitler's speeches and the Nazi-controlled media stirred up hatred of the Jews, and they believed it. They thought that hatred of the Jews was justified.
The SS, the Nazis' violent organization, was also active in the shadows. They never tolerated opponents and arrested them one after another.
Adults who saw something suspicious about Hitler warned young people, but the passionate young people refused to listen.
Even the priest Rupert Mayer, now blessed in the Catholic world, recognized Hitler as an agitator when he first heard a speech.

Those who only see Hitler as the embodiment of evil, ignorant of his charm and accomplishments, will never understand why people at the time allowed him to run wild. Far from being alone, they were intoxicated and applauded.
In this euphoric atmosphere, Europe's great tragedy was steadily being prepared. Passion led to the loss of reason, and cults of heroism led to blind faith, support for the persecution of Jews, and belief in the superiority of the Aryans and the enslaved destiny of the Slavs (Hitler associated the Slavs with "slaves").
We must not think that Germany was foolish.
Germany, a modern nation that produced many outstanding modern philosophers and led the philosophical world, was unable to stop its loss of reason. No German at the time could have ever imagined that they had lost their reason. They were an excellent people.
This is the lesson of history.
People who don't know history will repeat it. They believe, "When an evil dictator appears, we will reject him."
