幸せとは、自分の好きなことで感謝されること。

美魂のみなさま〜
This month, I would like to bring up “The Ant and Grasshopper” from Aseop’s Fables.
今月は、イソップ童話のアリとキリギリスというギリシャの昔話にまつわる話題です。
This Greek story affected my life decision early on.
このギリシャの昔話が、私が幼い頃の人生の進路に影響しました。
It traumatized me. Really…LOL
マジで…トラウマになっています。笑
This story was so popular in Japan when I was growing up, I always had someone read it to me whether I liked it or not.
この童話、私の子供時代は日本ではとても有名で、嫌でもなんでも誰からともなく読み聞かされました。
However, I’ve never heard of this story while I raising my kids in the US.
とはいえ、アメリカで子育てしていて、全くと言えるほど聞くことがありません。
In a nutshell, the Grasshopper gets punished for choosing the lifestyle to enjoy playing music and singing.
キリギリスが音楽を奏でて、歌って、楽しく生きることを選んだら、罰が当たるという。
The counterpart is the Ant who dedicated its entire life just to store food for survival.
カウンターパートは、サバイバルのために食料を蓄えるだけの人生を選んだアリさんたち。
In the original story, the ants left the Grasshopper to starve and die.
オリジナルのストーリではアリに見放され、キリギリスは飢え死にします。
The modern version has been revised and the ants give food to the Grasshopper.
現代のものは改善され、アリはキリギリスに食べ物を恵んであげます。
I hated this merciless Aesop’s story. LOL
私はこの残酷なイソップ童話が大嫌いでした。笑
It terrified me to decide to live as an artist.
アーティストとして生きていきようと決めるのが怖くなったくらいです。
If I only do what I love, I’ll starve and die. LOL
好きなことだけして生きようとしたら
飢え死にしちゃうって。
After all, I made the right decision - To survive by doing what I love only!
結論としては、飢え死に覚悟で好きなことだけして生きる人生を選んで
大正解でした。
In the US, Grasshopper means good luck, prosperity, and free or novice.
But in Japan, they are irresponsible failures. At least when I was a kid.
アメリカだと、キリギリスのように生きるというのは、
ポジティブな意味がありますが、日本では無責任な落ちぶれものという印象でした。私の子供時代はです。
What missing in Aesop’s story is there are many ways to live doing what you love
Even if it’s not as practical as storing food.
この童話には、好きなことだけして生活していける可能性があるという事実が
欠落しているのです。
You can store food by doing what you love
好きなことで食料を蓄えていくことができる。
When the ant gets burnt out from overworking
働くばかりで心が病んでしまったアリさんを
The Grasshopper can make the ant feel happy with the music.
一瞬で幸せにできるのがキリギリスの音楽なのです。
The ant’s responsibility to pay the fee in exchange
それに対してアリさんは対価を払う責任があるのです。
My sons often say “Why the music makes us happy just by listening to it”
私の子供たちが、「音楽って、聴くだけで何でこんなに幸せな気持ちになれるんだろう」とよく言います。
So I say to them, “Would it be nice if you can make the music and make people happy?
What if you can make a living doing so? Please make good music” I encourage them to live the grasshopper’s way.
私は、「そういう音楽を創って、人を幸せにできたらいいよね。
それを仕事にできたらいいよね。いい音楽創ってね。」と キリギリスの生き方を奨励しています。
”Do what you love for living.”
「好きなことで生きていきなさい」
This is the only request for my kids.
これが私の子供たちへの唯一のリクエストです。
When you feel a lack of happiness,
今の生活に幸福感が足らなかったら、
First, please listen to some music that makes you feel good.
まずは、自分が気持ちよくなれる音楽を聴いて、
Then please eat something yummy.
美味しいものを食べてください。
Then start a side job that involves something that you love
そして自分の好きなことを副業で始めてください。
Even if you have a career based on what you love
好きなことを本業にしていても、
Do some side hustle with something that you are passionate about.
さらに他にも好きなことを副業にしてください。
Having the possibility of living off of something that you love
好きなことで生きていける可能性を持っていること。
Will give you tremendous happiness for sure.
必ず大きな幸福感をくれるでしょう。
