いろいろな趣味をやってきて、I've been enjoying so many hobbies, maybe too much, ちょっとやり過ぎかもしれませんが、今よくできているかどうか考えた時、but I'd like to check how well I am doing now by indicating each of them in numbers. それぞれの段階を数字で表してみたらどうかと思いつきました。
英語の力を100とした時、If my English skills are 100, how much will the others be? 他はどうでしょうか。
英語は母語ではないものの、Although English isn't my mother tongue, I was trained as an interpreter, 通訳の訓練も受け、ニュースやドキュメンタリーは理解でき、so I can understand news and documentary programs, which I can watch while putting them into Japanese. 通訳しながら見ることもできます。（たまにJapanology Plusを夫に通訳しながら2人で見ることがあります。Sometimes I watch my favorite program Japanology Plus with my husband, translating it for him. ）映画などで早口だったり訛りが強い時はわからない場合もあり、In some movies when actors speak too fast or with dialects, I find them hard to follow, and speaking with natives are harder for me than listening to them. 喋る方は聞くのと比べると苦手です。書くのはある程度できますが、I can write to some extent, but as for vocabulary and selecting suitable expressions, I'm far from natives. 語彙の面や表現の適切な選択はまだまだです。これを100とするのは比較のためで、My English skills are numbered 100 for comparison with other skills, which doesn't mean perfect. 完璧と言う意味ではありません。教えている生徒のためにもさらにレベルアップしたいです。I'd love to upgrade myself for my students as well as for myself.
日本の古典の解釈力や評論文の読解力は120くらいです。As for understanding Japanese classical literature and modern thesis, my skills are about 120. 趣味でもあり教えてもいることや、Since I teach them while enjoying reading them, besides it is my first language, my vocabulary is larger than that of English. 母国語なので語彙の面が英語より上です。でも、まだ知らない古典作品もあり、There are, however, some classics that I'm not so familiar with, and I'm not so knowledgeable with Chinese classics. 漢文が苦手です。中国語と言うよりは日本の文学に影響を与えた古典として考えています。These classical literature works are not treated as a foreign language to us but as classics of othes kinds that have had an impact on our literature.
趣味の中国語はまだ知らないことも多いのと喋るのが全然なのでAbout modern Chinese, which I'm learning as one of my hobbies is 15 compared to English. 15くらいです。大学の時にやっていたため、知識は少しあります。I know some expressions because I studied it as a college student.
書道も中高やっていたのですが、I was enrolled in a calligraphy class about six years in my teens, but I've rarely written kanjis with a brush recently. 最近はあまり書いていなくて、20くらいです。So it is around 20 compared to English. 10代の頃は熱中していたこともありました。I was into it as a high schooler.
刺繍は好きですが始めたばかりなので5くらいで、I love doing embroidery, but I'm just a beginner, so the number would be five, and for ukulele, it's hard for me to play with a proper form, so it's also five. ウクレレもなかなか正しいフォームができていないのを痛感していて、同じく5くらいです。100になったら人に教えられるレベルですが、if they reach 100, which will be enough for teaching, but it may be difficult to just enjoy them if they are less than 20. 楽しむにも20くらいはないと難しいですね。
レース編みや棒針は少し慣れているので書道と同じくらいで20です。でも下手です。不器用なくせに手作りは好きです。実母は洋裁が上手でしたし、母方の祖父は陶芸が大好きでたくさん作品を作って親戚に配ってました。母方の伯父は水彩画が趣味です。ちょっとは遺伝もあるかもしれません。
まだ他にも陶芸やかなの書道もしたいと思っていますが、Other than these, I'd like to try pottery and calligraphy of hiragana phonetic symbols, but I shouldn't take them up 今はウクレレが課題なのと、since playing the ukulele and practicing driving are my issues right now. 運転練習が止まっているのでしばらく我慢します。運転はちゃんと遠くに行けたり、レンタカーを運転できる人と比べると半分くらいの技術です。Compared with those who can go in a long distance or can drive a rented car, I'm half as good a driver as them. どれも楽しいけれど結局上手くなるにはかなり努力しないといけないのが見えてきました。Both are fun, but they also require much effort to improve myself. ウクレレ講座もたくさんありますが、There are many ukulele classes available, but I've just begun learning it with the current teacher, 今の先生ともまだ始めたばかりです。so I guess I need to hang in here for some months. もう少し頑張ってみます。
