Have you ever heard of ' London Eye' ?
2000年に営業を開始したテムズ川近くの巨大観覧車だと初めて知りました。
I came to know that it's a giant Ferris Wheel near the Thames starting their business in the year 2000.
直径135メートル、It's the fourth largest of the world with its diameter 135 meters, taking more than 30 minutes in one round giving a panoramic view of London. 世界で4番目の大きさで、1周30分以上かけてロンドン全景を一望できます。しかも32個のカプセルがひとつに25人ほども乗れる大きさだそうです。It has 32 large capsules, each of which can hold about 25 passengers.
なぜこんなことを知ったかと言うと、いつもの趣味で海外から買ったスクラッチアートをしていたのがきっかけです。The reason why I got interested in this was I happened to do imported scratch art cards.
世界の絶景を大きめのポストカードで削っていた時、When I scratched world's scenic spots into view on large postcards, one of them was from London, titled London Eye. どうもロンドンらしい景色があり、名前を見たらロンドンアイと。きっとこの観覧車だと思って調べてみました。So I checked the name on the net.
トニーブレア首相が開業セレモニーをしたらしいです。The former prime minister Tony Blair seemes to have announced its opening. 時代を感じますね。I felt nostalgic to hear that.あの頃は落ち着いていたのに今は混乱してしまったイギリス。That was when Britain enjoyed bright calmness, now it's in chaos. The eye of London keeps going with lots of sightseers on its eyelashes. ロンドンの眼は、今日も多くの観光客を乗せて回り続けています。
カバー写真は私のスクラッチアートです。The cover photo is a scratch art I made. 昼と夜に2回乗るチケットも良さそうですね。It sounds nice to ride on the Wheel twice in day and the evening with a special ticket.
