4、5年前のこと。
利根運河（太平洋の利根川から千葉県柏市、流山市を通り、東京の江戸川を結ぶ運河）を知るため、流山市の利根運河散策に参加した。
案内人の説明を聞きながら、ついていくと、運河を離れて土手の上の方に進んで行くことになった。
方向がはずれていくような気がしていたが、行ってみると新川屋という料理屋に着いた。
説明によると、特別特攻隊の壮行会がここで行われ、翌日5機が新川屋の上空を2回まわって南の方へ向かったそうだ。
そして、2人が亡くなられたと。
私は特別特攻隊は鹿児島の話ではないかと思い、案内人に聞いた。すると、「全国から人が集められたんですよ」と言われた。
確かに、隣の柏市には自衛隊の基地があるわけだから、柏市で壮行会を行うべきではないかと思った。それなのに、流山市。
ずっと考え込んでしまった。5機の中に、流山市出身の方がいたのだろうと思う。
きっと、この運河に人がたくさん集まり、別れをつげたのだろう。（利根運河は2年かけて1890年に完成し、1941年に閉鎖された。船の横行禁止か）
"Floods and the Tone River Canal 1"
About 4-5 years ago, I joined a Tone Canal walking tour in Nagareyama city to learn about the Tone Canal, which runs from the Tone River in the Pacific Ocean through Kashiwa and Nagareyama cities in Chiba Prefecture, and connects to the Edo River in Tokyo.
As we followed the guide's explanation, we left the canal and went up to the embankment.
Although I felt like we were going in the wrong direction, we ended up arriving at a restaurant called "Shinkawa-ya".
According to the explanation, a send-off party for the Special Attack Force was held there, and the next day, five planes flew over Shinkawa-ya twice and headed south, and two people passed away.
I wondered if the Special Attack Force was from Kagoshima, and asked the guide.
They replied, "People were gathered from all over Japan."
Indeed, there is a Self-Defense Force base in nearby Kashiwa, so I thought the send-off party should have been held there, not in Nagareyama.
I pondered it for a long time. I think there was someone from Nagareyama among the five planes.
Surely, many people gathered at the canal to bid farewell. (The Tone Canal took 2 years to complete and was finished in 1890. It was closed in 1941 due to the prohibition of ships.)
