雨の祝日、ひとり銀座の画廊に出かけた。テレビの美術番組で知った日本人女性画家の作品を見たかった。彼女の名前は塔本シスコ。父親がサンフランシスコという名が気に入り、娘をシスコと命名した。絵画を正式に学んだこともなかった彼女は、50歳の頃、突然大きなキャンバスに油絵を描き始める。以来、91歳で亡くなるまで、花、昆虫、鳥、猫、そして故郷の懐かしい風景など、熱い心そのままを絵にしていった。見る者に直球がつきささる。それでいて懐かしく優しい鮮やかな絵は、飽きることがない。銀座に行けば、お気に入りの店に立ち寄り、少しばかり食品を買う。銀座熊本館、秋田ふるさと館、ザ・博多と巡るのがおいしい。昼間の帰りの地下鉄はすいていて、荻窪駅に着くとパン屋さんへ。クロワッサンとスコーンが、この日の私のランチだ。銀座を巡ると、心のもやもやクヨクヨがなぜか流れ出ていく気がする。大好きなおとなの街だ。
Weather this week has been quite strange: one day it was like summer and towards the weekend it rained and cold. On the national holiday I went to Ginza, my favorite part of Tokyo, to see the art show. I visited the art gallery located on the fifth floor of the tall narrow building. Shisuko Tomoto, a Japanese artist, had created over five hundred oil paintings before her death at 91. Never formally educated in art, she began painting around 50. Her vivid and lively pictures of flowers, birds, cats, insects and her nostalgic hometown events and sceneries are unforgettably lovely and certainly make the audience happy.
