ブレイクダウンやリズミカルなリフ、楽器としてのデスボイス、サビでのクリーンな歌メロなどが特徴のいわゆるコア系の音楽。
そして私がやっているデスメタルやブラックメタルのジャンル。
デスボイスの使用という共通点があれど、リスナー層は全く違う人種であったりします。
デスメタルの一部のバンドはデスコアなどと近い存在ではありますが、基本的に別物です。
デスコアはどちらかというとニューメタルやミクスチャーからの派生であり、デスメタルやブラックメタルはスラッシュメタルからの派生です。
コア系の音楽の方がグルーブ重視でサビのメロディアスな盛り上がりなども重視する傾向があるかと思います。
しかし、デスメタル系はギターソロや速いリズム、一貫してデスボイスの使用で攻撃性をより重視しています。
なのでライブでいかに盛り上がるかというコア系の音楽ファンと、芸術を鑑賞したいというニュアンスの強いブラックメタル系のファンは全く相容れない存在でもあったりします。
Deathrollのライブも、どちらかというとじっと観ておられる方が多く心配になりますが内心にはすごく響いておられる方が時々いらっしゃるようなので、そういった音楽なのだとつくづく感じます。
Core genres, such as metalcore and deathcore, feature distinctive elements like breakdowns, rhythmic guitar riffs, death growls as instrumental texture, and clean melodic choruses.
In contrast, the genres I perform, such as death metal and black metal, differ significantly from these core styles. Although they share common ground in their use of death growls, their respective fan bases are quite distinct from one another.
Certain death metal bands might overlap slightly with deathcore, yet fundamentally, they remain separate entities. Deathcore generally evolved from nu-metal and crossover styles, while death metal and black metal originated from thrash metal roots.
Core music often prioritizes groove, rhythmic complexity, and melodic climaxes in choruses to maximize live engagement. Death metal, on the other hand, emphasizes guitar solos, high-speed rhythms, and consistent aggressive vocal styles to convey raw intensity.
Therefore, fans who enjoy the participatory energy and excitement of core-style live performances often differ substantially from black metal enthusiasts who prefer a more artistic, contemplative experience.
At Deathroll concerts, audience members typically remain still and intensely focused, which sometimes worries me. However, I’ve come to realize that this quiet attentiveness often indicates deep emotional resonance with the music.
