全米で最も汚い町

いろんなランクがあるものだ。

LawnStarter というサイトに [2023’s Dirtiest Cities in America] というのが出ている。

つまり「全米で最も汚い町のリスト」というわけだ。

そのリストを紹介した記事が、こんなふうに書き始められていた:

　Do you think New York’s filthy sidewalks, gross subway cars and rat infestations make it America’s dirtiest city? You’re in for quite a surprise.

　（ニューヨーク市の歩道はゴミだらけだし、地下鉄車両は汚いし、ネズミがやたらにちょろちょろしているしで、全米で最も不潔な町だと思っていませんか？　豈図らんや）

be in for a surprise は、"驚きに向かう領域の中にいる" ということだろう。

quite という語が入っているので、「全くの見当違いだと知って、驚くことになるだろう」という感じかもしれない。
