The test was to choose the correct response to a question in conversations.
英会話で尋ねられたことに対し回答するという問題でした。
The text is easy to read and it probably is easy to choose the correct answers; however, what I want to point out to you is if you can speak it when there is no text right in front of you.
文章は読みやすく、正解を選ぶのも易しかったと思います。でも ここで皆様にお知らせしたいのは、「テキストが目前にない時に、話せますか?」というところです。
Conversations are carried on by speeches where there is no text to read unless they are done in writing or in sign languages. The fastest way to improve your conversational skills is to memorize short sentences like these.
会話と言うのは筆談や手話でない限り、目に見える文章を読むのではなく、空気しかないところで話すことです。このような簡単な会話をまず、練習して覚えてしまうことがうまくなる方法です。

(know the ropes は熟語で、コツを知る、勝手を知る)

Miyabi says it is fastest if you memorize short sentences. I would suggest you practice if you can translate the Japanese sentences back to the original English sentences.
