The following is a list of suggested summer reading for 1st grade students in the US and is cited from Greatschools.org's website here.

The majority of the books are around 30 pages in length, where the fundamental of things are told. I pasted 15 titles here. Unfortunately online links are not available.
リストの中のほとんどの本のページ数が30ページ前後となり、物事の基礎を書いたものが多いです。リストから 15 冊を貼りつけました。残念ながらオンラインリンクは見つけられませんでした。
I recommend "Is a Worry Worrying You?" to children and adults. This book teaches children to look into their fear and anxiety to solve them and to calm themselves. I see lack of self and emotional control techniques in many children and adults alike in the U.S. or Japan. For chilren to have a strong character not to resort to suicide or self-destructive behaviors, this is a must read.
私は「しんぱいでなやんでない？」を、子供にも大人にもお薦めします。この本は子供たちに、「恐（おそ）れ」や「焦（あせ）り」といった感情を見つめ、解決しながら自分自身を落ち着かせることを教えています。米国でも日本でも、自己と感情を抑制する方法を持ち合わせない子供も大人も多く見てきました。自殺や、自虐行為に走らない、強い精神力を子供に持たせるめにも、これは読まなくてはならない図書です。
These books will introduce fundamentals of society, nature, humanism, and self to readers, while teaching them to accept differences among people. These books will well prepare any 1st grader who start his/her academic and social careers ahead.
これらの本は、読者に社会、自然、人間性、そして自己の基本を紹介し、また人間同士の違いを受け入れることを教えています。今後学びと社会にもまれていく小学1年生に、よりよく準備をさせるのに大いに役立つでしょう。
