今回の出張は二度目の宮崎でしたが、一度目よりも確認が入ることから、更に理解が深まるとともに、我が日本の歴史の深さに感銘しました。
青島神社は海彦・山彦の舞台どころじゃなく、ご神体が山彦（彦火火出見命 ヒコホホデミノミコト）なのですね。そして、山彦が兄弟の争いに勝ったことは知っていましたが、天照大神の孫の子供で、初代神武天皇のお爺さん（失礼します）である事を初めて知りました。ここから、神武の東征が始まったのかと思うと、非常に灌漑深く、歴史や先祖とのつながりがあり、今があるとの思いに至ります。
ここは外人が来たら喜ぶだろうなァ・・・などと思っていたのですが、自分が外人に説明したらどんな感じなのだろうなどと思いふけりました。
なァ、Jhon（ジョン＝誰でもいいのですが）、この島の神社は、日本の初代神様（天照大神）の孫の子供で、初代天皇（神武天皇）の御爺さんが祭られているんだ。彼には兄弟がいて、海で魚を捕る名人（海幸彦）で、彼は山で獲物を捕る名人（山幸彦）だったんだ。或る時兄弟は持ち分を変えてみようと言う事で、それぞれ釣りと猟を変えてやっては見ても、全然だめだった。あまつさえ、山彦は兄の釣り針を無くしてしまって、それが元で兄弟は仲たがいをしてしまう。困った弟は薦める人があって、海の国に行き、そこで美女を娶り、釣り針もタイののどに刺さっているのを取り戻し、帰国するわけさ。それを見た民衆が喜んで海に飛び込んで迎えたというのが、毎年ここで行われる裸祭になるんだ。言い伝えでは2600年以上前と言う事だけど、本当は1700年位かもしれないね。彼が後に兄に打ち勝ち、初代天皇の祖父になるわけ・・・・
John (whoever), this shrine is dedicated to the ancestor of the first Japanese god
(Amaterasu), who is the Grandfather of the first Emperor of Japan – Emperor
Jimmu. His brother is a master of fishing (Uminosachihiko), he himself is a master of
hunting (Yamanosachihiko). Once the brothers wanted to see what would happen if
they switched their specialties, they end up with no catch. Besides Yamanosachihiko
lost his brother’s fishhook, and due to this reason they do not get along with each
other. Yamanosachihiko went to the sea, married a beauty, found his lost fishhook,
and returned to his country. The people were so happy that they all jumped into the
sea, and this later became the naked festival. According to legend, this happened
2,600 years ago, but maybe extended back to1,700 years. Yamanosachihiko later won
the fight to his brother, and became the grandfather of the first Emperor of Japan.
