日本語でTVやネットから得られる情報を受動的に浴びるだけでなく

様々な変化が起こります。
たとえば最近のニュースでは

という見出しがありました。
BBCでは
"Man given genetically modified pig heart die"
となっていました。（写真の右下ね）
単に「ブタ」というだけでなく
「genetically modified (遺伝子改変した)」という説明があると印象が違います。
どういうことかなと興味につながります。
どんな分野でもよいので、
好きなこと惹かれることにそのまま乗っていくと
英語の壁もどうってことなくなっていくんじゃないかな。
知識が増える、知人が増える、職業の選択肢が増える、色々につながります。
自分の意見を持つこと、世界中に発信することにもつながります。
英語による論文や特許という専門性の高い文書にも無論、様々な情報が含まれています。

Raisin consumption by humans: effects on glycemia and insulinemia and cardiovascular risk factors

Raisins are widely recommended as good foods and preferred snacks because of their nutrient content.
They are rich in dietary fiber, potassium, and many health-promoting phytonutrients and antioxidants.
Raisins have a high dietary fiber score. Laboratory studies document that raisins rank in the upper quartile of foods for antioxidant content.
Clinical research related to the potential health benefits of raisins has intensified over the past 10 y.
Much of this research has focused on blood glucose and insulin responses to raisins compared to other foods or snacks.
Meal studies indicate that raisins have a low to moderate glycemic index and a low insulinemic index.
Longer term studies suggest that customary intake of raisins is associated with lower postprandial blood glucose values than with equicaloric control foods.
Cross-sectional studies suggest that higher levels of dried fruit consumption are associated with lower systolic and diastolic blood pressure than seen with minimal dried fruit use.
One clinical study documents that raisin intake over 12 wk is accompanied by a significant reduction in blood pressure.
Preliminary results indicate that raisins are associated with increased satiety and decreased food consumption over an 8-h period, but the potential benefits of raisins for weight loss have not been assessed.
Raisin intake is accompanied by reductions in serum low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, triglycerides, and oxidized low-density cholesterol values.
Thus, raisins have the potential to significantly reduce the risk for developing diabetes or cardiovascular disease.

Analyzing the factors influencing adoption intention of internet banking: Applying DEMATEL-ANP-SEM approach

The main purpose of this study is to propose a research model to explore the key factors affecting consumers’ willingness to use online banking.
There are two stages in this research.
Firstly, the decision making trial and evaluation laboratory (DEMATEL) and analytic network process (ANP) were used to explore the key factors of companies in operation of online banking.
Secondly, the structural equation modeling (SEM) was used to explore the key factors of consumers’ actual use of online banking.
The results showed differences in the factors that companies and consumers adopted.
Based on the findings, companies can adjust their business strategies and improve the consumers’ willingness of online banking usage.
The primary factor valued by both companies and consumers is trust.
Hence, in the business of internet banking, the companies must strengthen areas such as liquidity monitoring, information security, and compliance with financial regulations, in order to reduce risks and gain customers’ trust.

Harvest failures, temporary export restrictions and global food security: the example of limited grain exports from Russia, Ukraine and Kazakhstan

Russia, Ukraine and Kazakhstan (RUK) are major players in the international grain markets and their exports help to improve global grain availability and hence food security.
However, during the last decade the availability of RUK grain exports was repeatedly diminished by harvest failures and further reduced by the introduction of export restrictions.
By simulating a reoccurrence of the 2010 RUK harvest situation this paper assesses the impact of grain harvest failures and subsequent temporary export restrictions (bans, quotas, taxes) on national and international food security, specifically quantifying the effects on agricultural market prices and quantities.
For the analysis AGLINK-COSIMO, a recursive-dynamic, partial equilibrium, supply–demand model, has been employed.
Simulation results highlight the importance of RUK’s grain production for world markets and global food security, indicating substantial price increases due to limited grain exports from RUK.
Moreover, scenario results illustrate that temporary RUK export restrictions can considerably aggravate the situation on world grain markets, with particularly adverse effects for grain net importing countries.
At the same time, results show that for a country like Ukraine, i.e. a country usually exporting large shares of its total grain production, the introduction of export restrictions could potentially result in decreases of domestic consumer prices to a level even below a situation with normal weather conditions.
The results put international trade policy into focus and underline the necessity of greater cooperation on the part of exporting countries in order to avoid importing countries being denied necessary grain supplies.
