Daisuke Matsuzaka was born September 13, 1980 in Tokyo, Japan. His first name is pronounced "Dice-ke". He is nicknamed "The Monster" in Japan. He is a Japanese professional baseball player who became a member of the Boston Red Sox on December 13, 2006. It is anticipated that he will be a member of the starting rotation as starting pitcher. He previously played for the Seibu Lions in Japan's Pacific League.
Daisuke Matsuzaka's fastball ranges from 90–96 mph (145–154km/h), with some late movement. He also throws a splitter, changeup, slider, curveball and cutter with almost the same delivery and he has said that he is working on a gyroball. He was selected the MVP of the 2006 World Baseball Classic.
