From the perspective of the relation between
men and Osaka Municipal Wholesale Market,
there seem to be two types of people in this world;
those who get excited with it, and the others who don't.
I get excited.
But the hard thing about a wholesale market is that
it's not open unless you start early, and this discourages me
from being a frequent goer.
Nearly one year had passed since I was there last time,
and finally my "wanna get excited there" overcame "don't wanna get up early,"
and I went there with one of my friend who gets excited with wholesale markets.
Last time we were there it was Wednesday, and this time it was Saturday,
meaning many of the stores were closed.
Therefore I couldn't buy everything I planned, but still I got:
・Bonito flakes (with the blood-colored part)
・Bonito flakes (without the blood-colored part)
・Dried sakura shrimps
・Dried young sardines (larger & silver)
・Dried young sardines (smaller & white)
・Shredded kelp
・Kelp
All of these were of high quality and lower-priced.
I was happy.
About the shredded kelp, hundreds of packs of this were sold
at the kelp wholeseller, and the shop owner recommended this
to us with an unusual degree of enthusiasm, so we bought it.
"Hey lady, lady!! That indeed is nice, too, but look at this!! THIS!!!!
I really really recommend that you buy this!!!!!!
This is selling like crazy now, I tell you what!!
People are like coming from far away and buying this like you won't believe!!
Look! Look at that!! (pointing at the hundreds of parcels, seemingly, of the
shredded kelp waiting to be sent to all over the country) Those're all
shredded kelp!! Orders are like coming from all over Japan that much everyday!!!
This is my RECOMMENDATION!! Trust me, lady!!"
I knew what shredded kelp was and I even had a pack in my fridge at that time,
but had no idea that it had been such a big hit, so I asked him
how so many people were consuming so much shredded kelp.
His answer was,
"I don't know!"
"I don't know! I have no idea, but everyone is buying this in bulk!
So you should buy this, too!!"
It seemed that this thing had been selling so much that he couldn't help laughing
although he had no idea why.
And it was obvious that he felt no need to know the reason why it was
selling when it was already selling so well.
I kind of liked this attitude of his, and bought a pack.
I ate it at home, and sure it was good, but
I still couldn't see why it was being so popular.
After shopping, another friend who does not get excited with markets
joined us, and we went to a sushi bar in the premises, had great sushi,
and enjoyed the rest of this beautiful autumn day
strolling around Osaka with no particular aims.
