アメリカの誘惑沢山！日本人子供の面倒を頼まない
I got my huge box of goodies from America
アメリカから沢山誘惑が来た！！！
This may seem very "Japanese" of me but...I really don't like asking friends or family for a favor to send me something
私は。。。少し日本人に近いの考えですが。。。余り友達に。。。いろいろを頼みたくない。 家族の人も”これを送って”を言いたくない
I like using auctions (Ebay), and websites, and FBC shopping.
オークション、インタネットなどは一番楽
Pure business. No sending each other this and that...worrying about owing this and that.
ビズネースの感じ。 ビーズネスだけ！ お互いに物を送ったりする。。。気にする。。。物足りないとか。。。お返しは。。”公平”かない。。。とか。。。あああ、面倒！
Even since I was a child, my father always told me to try my best not to ever ask for favors
子供頃から、ずっとパパから言われた”あまり人に色々を頼まないでね”
It sometimes strains a friendship and you never want to "owe" someone something
友情を台無しにする。。。それとも。。。好意を負っている （owe a favor = 好意を負っている）
I agree somewhat with this......
そうね。。。私大体そう思う。。。
Except...after having had become a mother, I wonder why more Japanese moms don't rely on each other
けどママになってから、なぜママたち。。。も少し周りの友達に頼らない。。。と思った
Sometimes I see them struggle so much.....but they never ask for help
無理している感じ。。。けど。。。絶対”助けてくれない”とかを言わない
Is it a matter of pride?
ポライドの問題かな？
Like asking for help is a sign of weakness or something?
友達に色々を頼むと。。。何かいけないことみたい？

Next week I have two tennis lessons (one is a make up lesson)
来週。。。テニスレッソン二つあるんだ。 （一つは振替レッソンです）
Lina cannot stay in the tennis courts (too dangerous - the coach does not allow it)
リナはコートの中にいられない。 危ないから、コーチは”ダメ”と言っていました
And I don't want her to freeze her butt off outside the court for 90 minutes
コートの外で待つのは。。。可哀そう。。。９０分だし、寒いし
There is no way I would let her play by herself on the playground or in the park
まだ一人で公園で遊ぶの絶対無理し （いや、まっさか。。。。。危ない！！！！）
So, on Monday she'll stay with a friend and her daughter.
ので、月曜日、友達の家で遊ぶ
And Tuesday another friend and her daughter.
そして、火曜日、また他の友達の所で遊びに来る
I'm really grateful that they'll do me such a huge favor
友達たちに感謝します （すごい大きな頼みです！）
And of course they know they can ask me anytime to take care of their child, too!
モチロン、私もいつでも彼らの子供を見てあげる （私は”いつでもいいよ”。。。と言っています）
One of my Japanese friends said that in Japan, asking someone to take care of their child......is over the line......
日本人の友達言ってたのは”それだけダメです。。。大きすぎの頼み”（人を子供を預けること）
She said "anything but that" is acceptable
何でもいい。。。 それだけ”いけない”と言っていました
But she herself is fine with it....her child has stayed at my place before and Lina has gone to her too, when I had some previous engagements to get to.
けど。。。彼女は平気です。 彼女の子は何かい家で預けたことある。。。逆。。。私が用事がある時、彼女はリナを見てくれる

Her husband is not home much and not a super supportive father (from what she says)

So I told her "drop off your elder daughter at my place anytime when you feel like you cannot take it anymore"
で、私彼女に言った。。。”も我慢出来ない時、お姉ちゃん家に預けるよ”
And I told her "I meant it, seriously! Not in the Japanese "lip service way"...I really mean it"
と彼女に言った。。。 本当です。 言葉だけじゃなくて、本気で行っています。
Don't hesitate at all to take up my offer!

I miss going to a bookstore and being able to read and browse all the books
本屋に行って。。。本を全て読めるのは。。。あああ。。。懐かしいな
In Japan.....all the books are in Japanese and with my Japanese, it takes ages just to look at a book cover!
日本の本屋。。。ほとんど日本語だけ。。。そして。。。カバーだけを読むのは。。。すごい時間かかる！
Forget about buying them!
余り買う気しない （時間かかりすぎ。。。かかりすぎ！）
They have English books available on Amazon.co.jp in Japan
英語の本は。。。簡単にＡＭＡＺＯＮで注文できる
And in various bookstores
そしてある本屋も英語の本を販売している
But it's totally different.
けど全然違う！
I miss flipping through and browsing through a book before buying it
本を買う前、少し中身を見てみたいな
It is frustrating for me.

One of my favorite past-times as a university student was going to bookstores
大学生の好きな習慣は。。。本屋に行くこと
I would stay there...read a few books (encouraged... they have tons of sofas to let you sit and read!)...take a nap...and go home with a big bag of new books
本屋に行って。。。何冊を読んで（ソファ沢山置いてある。。。皆は本を読むために、置いてある！）。。。そして、少し昼寝してから、本を買って、帰る
This was problematic when I moved out of my place
そのアパートから引っ越ししたのは。。。。。。大問題だった
I had acquired too many darn heavy books in my 4 years as an undergrad
本を買い過ぎたので。。。。。。。。。荷物。。。本。。。有り過ぎ。。。。大変困りました！！！！！
I told honey.......if we ever go abroad, you are gonna die without all your books
ハニーに言ってた。。。私たち海外に行って住んだら、ハニーは絶対苦しむ。。。 日本語の本ほとんどないから
And unlike English books..... few countries outside of Japan have an extensive selection of Japanese books
英語の本と違って。。。日本語の本は。。。 日本以外の国では。。。なかなか売っていないね。
For Japanese living outside of Japan.......how do you buy Japanese books?

Whole wheat flour, brain game for Lina, Aluminum-free baking powder, and 3 magazines...plus Valentine's and Easter tablecloth.
全麦粉、リナの能トレーゲーム、アルミ無しＢＰ，雑誌三つ、バレンタインとイースターのプラスチックテーブルクロス
The magazines are super cheap...3 for 990yen... (but picked at random)
雑誌はすごく安い。。。ミツで９９０円。 （選べないけど。。。ママの興味雑誌勝手に三つを選んでくれる）
Foreign mags, even at COSTCO, cost a fortune here in Japan
海外からの雑誌、日本で買うのは。。。ものすごい高い！ ＣＯＳＴＣＯで買っても高い！
