バーリンゲームにある人気ベーカリー&カフェ
Backhaus
パートナーの知り合いに勧められたベーカリー＆カフェ。
最初に行った時は、閉店近くということもあり、パンは売り切れ。
出直して行った際に、飲み物、ペイストリーを購入。
どれも美味しかったので、今度はカフェを利用しようと思っていたところ、
機会があったので、最近カフェを利用しました。
光が良い感じに入って、明るく開放感がある店内。
シンプルなデザインでとても好印象。
２階にさらに席があります。
週末は、お昼前までが一番混んでいるという印象。
2019年にサンマテオに第一号店がオープン。
それまでは、バーリンゲームのファーマーズマーケットで商品を売っていたそうです。
バーリンゲーム店は、2023年11月にオープンしたようで、まだ新しい感じです。
ドイツ出身のAnneさんとカリフォルニア州出身の Robert Moserさんご夫婦が始めたお店。
ゴールは、「まず素晴らしい焼き菓子と飲み物を提供し、そして、誰にとっても心地良い雰囲気を作ること」とのこと。また、地理的に事業を拡大させできる限り多くの顧客を得ることを目指すのではなく、ローカルコミュニティとの深い関わりを持つことを目指しているそうです。
ドイツの影響を受けたパンや焼き菓子が並んでいます。

中はふわふわ、外はしっかり目。ちょうど良い酸味で、サンドイッチにちょうど良かったです。

ランチメニュー用にのみフォークがつくようで、残念ながらフォークとナイフなしだったので、手で分けることしかできませんでした。

会話を楽しむ場所ということで
入った時には、ほとんど席が埋まっていたので、座れるか若干心配でしたが、ちょうど良い感じに回っていて、待つことなくスムーズに席を確保することができました。
また利用したいカフェでした。

A popular bakery and cafe in Burlingame;

My partner’s friend recommended this place so we thought we'd check it out. When we first visited, all their baked goods were sold out. Maybe it was because it was near their closing time. So, we went earlier a second time and got some baked goods and drinks. We enjoyed them all and thought we should try their cafe in the future. Then, we recently had a chance to drop by.
The bright entrance and indoor space were simple and well-designed which gave a cozy and positive impression. There is a space on the second floor. It seemed like they are very busy until noon or so when it comes to the weekends. I’ve seen more lines and crowds until around noon.
The first Backhaus was open in San Mateo in 2019. Until then, they sold their products at a farmer’s market in Burlingame. This second location in Burlingame opened in November2023 which is still relatively new. It’s owned by a wife and husband, Anne who is originally from Germany and Robert Moser from California. Their goal is “first and foremost to offer well-crafted baked goods and drinks and create a welcoming atmosphere for everyone.” Also, they mentioned on their website that they “have no intention of spreading out geographically and reaching as many customers as possible superficially, but to have a deeper connection with our local community.“
You will see breads and baked goods influenced by Germany. We tried a few items; the Olive Bread, Maple Pecan Claw, Croissant and Pear and Chocolate Scone. The olive bread was moisture and fluffy inside and solid outside with a good amount of olives. It was not too sour and good for sandwiches. We had the scone, chocolate croissant and morning bun at a cafe. As a fork was provided only for lunch menu items, we couldn’t get it so we had to divide into haves by hands. Oatmilk mocha and latte were great also. they use the Ritual Coffee from San Francisco. There was a little note on a table mentioning that “Our cafe is a technology-free zone. Enjoy the space. Make a new friend. Unplug and be present.”
When we arrived at the cafe, it was packed and almost all tables were taken so we were worried if we could find a table. But, their cycle was good and we didn’t have to wait for others to leave and was able to find it. It was a kind of a cafe I’d like to come back.
