もう日本語の勉強を始めてから3年が経ったんですね。
2020年10月19日に香港の「パソナ」という日本語学校で最初の授業を受けてからのことが、まるで昨日のことのように鮮明に覚えています。校長の亀島先生が一人一人に「なぜ日本語を勉強するのか
」と質問した際、19人のクラスメイト全員がそれぞれの理由を英語で答えました。多くの異なる動機があった中で、日本の学校に進学したいと考えていたのは私一人だけでした。
Wow, it's already been three years since I started studying Japanese. I clearly remember my first class at the 'Pasona' Japanese language school in Hong Kong on October 19, 2020. Principal Kamejima asked each of us, 'Why are you studying Japanese?' All 19 of my classmates answered in English, each with different reasons. I was the only one wanting to go to school in Japan.
そのクラスには色々な人がいました。退職した夫婦、十分なお金を稼いで引退した裕福な若者たち、そして学生たち。でも、40代でまだ仕事を続けている私のような人は私一人だけでした。
In that first class, there were retired couples, rich young guys who had made enough and retired early, and students. I was the only one in my 40s still in the middle of my career.
今回は、この3年間の学習旅路について振り返ってみたいと思います。
I want to reflect on my three-year learning journey.
3ヶ月の授業を経た後、私は全てのデジタルデバイスの言語設定を英語から日本語に変更する大胆な一歩を踏み出しました。最初の半年は、意味が分からないカタカナ語がたくさんあって、読むのが大変でした。
9ヶ月あと、ようやく徐々に慣れ、カタカナ語を読むスピードもアップしてきました。
After three months of classes, I boldly switched all my digital devices from English to Japanese. The first six months were tough because of all the katakana words I didn't understand. But about nine months in, I got used to it, and my reading speed improved.
2021年7月、JLPT N4に合格しました。これは2番目に簡単な試験です。
In July 2021, nine months after starting, I passed the JLPT N4.
その後、2021年12月にはJLPT N3もクリアしました。
Then, in December 2021, I cleared the JLPT N3.
2022年4月には新たなステージへと進み、福岡のYMCA日本語学校での1年間の留学を始めました。そして、その3ヶ月後の2022年7月に、JLPT N2をギリギリで合格。
In April 2022, I moved onto a new stage, starting a year of study abroad at the YMCA Japanese language school in Fukuoka. Just three months later, in July, I barely passed the JLPT N2.
しかし、2022年12月のJLPT N1では、読解が苦手なので、残念ながら不合格となってしまいました。
But in December 2022, I failed the JLPT N1, struggling with the reading section.
そこで、今年は読解力の強化に重点を置き、様々な小説に挑戦しながら、再び12月のJLPT N1に向けて努力を重ねていきたいと思っています！
So, this year, I want to focus on improving my reading skills. I plan to read a lot of novels and work hard toward passing the JLPT N1 in December again!
