｢また停電だ。｣
先日夕方6時頃、停電になり翌朝まで停電が続いた。
ネパールではよくあることだ。
｢It is a power outage again.｣
The other day, around 6pm, a power outage occurred and it continued
till the next morning.
計画停電がなくなったカトマンズでも時々このようなことが今でも起こる。
Sometimes this still happens, although the power outage has finished
about 3 years ago only inside of Kathmandu valley not all Nepal.
停電になればなったで、電気なしで過ごせばいいことなのだけど、
１つだけ困ることがある。
それは冷蔵庫。
While the power outage are going, we just spend without
an electricity and lights, its no problem but only one things
we have problem is a refrigerator.
我が家のキッチンの主である冷蔵庫は、1,2時間くらいの停電なら
問題ないのだが、それ以上長く続くと、ただの収納ボックスと化す。
暑い時期だとへたをすれば中の食品を処分しなければならない事態になる。
Which is a boss of our kitchen, has no problem if the power outage
has continue only for 1 or 2hours,
But if it lasts for longer than that, it becomes just a big storage box.
If the weather is hot, then we will have to dispose of the food inside.
私が初めてネパールに来たのは2011年。
その頃はまだネパール全土で計画停電が実施されていた。
雨期でも1日7,8時間、乾期だと1日12時間から16時間ほど
停電になっていた。
The year I came to Nepal first was 2011.
At that time the rolling blackouts were still being implemented
throughout Nepal.
There was a power outage of 7 or 8 hours a day even in the rainy season,
and of 12 to 16hours a day in the dry season.
政府から計画停電の時間計画表が定期的に発信されるので、
それを印刷して壁に張る。
この表を見れば自分の居る地域が何曜日は何時から何時まで
停電になるかが一目でわかる。
The government does sending out a rolling blackout schedule on a regular basis,
so print it out and put it on the wall.
We can see at a glance what day of the week the blackout are in and
from what time to what time the power will be cut off,
if we look at this time table.
この表を見て、｢今日は○時から○時まで電気がある、
じゃあこの時間帯にこの仕事をしよう｣という感じで
停電のサイクルと共に生活が回っていた。
Looking at this table, “Today there is a power from ○am to ○pm,
so lets do this work during this time.”
Life was going around with the cycle of power outage then.
3年ほど前だったろうか、カトマンズ盆地内での計画停電がなくなった。
そして24時間電気がある生活になった。
About 3 years ago, the power outage inside of Kathmandu valley
has finally finished.
Then life has changed as there is the electricity 24hours.
日本では当たり前だったこと。
電気のスイッチを一押しすれば、いつでもいくらでも電気が使えた。
It was aright things in Japan.
I could use electricity anytime and as much as I want
if I put the electric switch.
計画停電がある国に来て、電気がある生活は当たり前ではないということを知った。
I learned that living with electricity is not the norm
after I came to Nepal which has the power outage.
今でもネパールの地方では計画停電がある。
数年後、数十年後にはネパール全土から
計画停電がなくなる日が来るだろう。
There is still rolling blackouts in rural Nepal.
The day will come when rolling blackouts will be finished
from all over Nepal years or decades of later.
大昔、電気がまだこの世になかった頃、
人々はどうやって生活していたんだろう。
太陽が空にあるうちに活動し、夜はろうそくやランプや
あるいは月明かりを頼りにしていたのだろうか。
How did people live long ago when electricity was not in the world yet?
Did they work while the sun was in the sky, relying on the candles,
lamps or moonlight at night?
満月の夜の月夜も電灯が不要なほど明るいし、
月夜はなんだか心を落ち着かせてくれる。
電気が発展したおかげで、便利にはなったが、
どこの国でも夜空の星はそこにあるのに
都心ではそれが見えない。
The moonlight is so bright that the lump doesn’t need,
and the moonlight is kind of calming.
Thanks to the development of the electricity, it has become convenient.
But there are stars in the night sky but they can not be seen
in the city in every country which is so shame.
電気がもたらしてくれた便利な生活に感謝しつつ、
有限である電気を無駄使いせず、
時々月夜を見上げてボーッとし、
太陽のもとで洗濯をして、
当たり前のことなどこの世にないということを
忘れずにいたい。
While appreciating the convenient life that electricity has brought,
I don’t want to waste the finite electricity.
I want to look up at the moonlight, do the laundry under the sun,
I want to keep in my mind that there is no such things
as a matter of course in the world.
特にコロナが地球に現れてから、
当たり前は当たり前じゃなかったことに気付かされた。
I realized that it isn’t the norm,
especially after corona appeared on earth.
今も電気があることでこの日記をPCで書くことができている。
電気に感謝。

I can write this diary on my PC the thanks of the electricity.
