毎年のことながらGSパリは素晴らしい大会です。
一番感じるのは、応援に来てくださる方と大会側がともに大会を盛り上げる雰囲気があるということです。
試合観戦では地元フランスの選手への応援が大きいのはもちろんなのですが、良い試合をしたり、技を見せたりすると、国など関係なく盛大な拍手と声援が送られます。
日本の場合は国際大会であっても、どちらかというと選手の所属を中心にした応援になりますが、GSパリの場合はそうしたものは関係なく、一体感を得られるような雰囲気があるのです。
場内アナウンスで盛りあげたり、ウェーブが起きたりという工夫があるからなのですが、観客の皆さんが自ら楽しもうとしているのが伝わってきます。
また、地元の子どもたちとオリンピックメダリストや元トップ選手が柔道の試合を行う交流イベント「Legends faced the team of Heroes」もとても楽しかったです。
Legendsチームは全世界から柔道家が参加、私もヘッドコーチという立場で参加させてもらいました。
メンバーは、地元フランスからは前日に試合に出場したスター選手・アグベニューさんをはじめ、デコスさん、昨年引退したマレーさん。他にはコソボのケルメンディさん、現在はウズベキスタンの代表監督をしているイリアデスさんといった面々です。
いずれの皆さんも立場を超え、柔道を一緒に盛りあげようという気持ち一つで参加していました。皆さん、JUDO Familyの一員という気持ちだったと思います。
勝負は勝負で真剣に行いますが、一方で、勝敗を超えたところにある柔道の魅力と連帯を伝えるため、手を取り合い行動する。こうしたことはとても素敵なことたど思いましたし、自他共栄の精神そのものだと感じました。
Fantastic Organising!
The Paris Grand Slam, an annual event is a fantastic competition.
The thing that strikes me most is how together the organisers, participants and spectators make the atmosphere at the competition electric. Naturally there is a lot of support for the home side whenever a French athlete is taking part in a match however the same rousing applause and cheers also go up for athletes from any nation who perform techniques well and put on a great match.
Even at an international competition in Japan support seems to centre on the affiliation of the athletes. That doesn’t happen at the Paris Grand Slam making the atmosphere a lot more inclusive.
You get the sense that the crowd are intent on having a great time no matter what, while also being pumped up by the announcements and waves.
Legends VS Heroes an event where local children take on top athletes and Olympic medallists was very entertaining. The Legends team is made up of athletes from all over the world and I took part as head coach.
Taking part were French star athlete AGBEGNENOU who competed the previous day, DECOSSE and MARET. KELMENDI from Kosovo and the current Uzbekistan coach ILIADIS also joined the line up.Everyone came together no matter what their position with the sole purpose of making judo entertaining. We all felt ourselves to be a part of the JUDO Family.
The matches are taken seriously but we also work together to also convey the appeal and solidarity of judo which goes beyond winning and losing. It is really something very special and in essence is the spirit of co-prosperity not only for oneself but also for others.
