１月14日には大阪市で開催された第13回スポーツひのまるキッズ近畿小学生柔道大会に講師として参加しました。
この大会は、親がコーチボックスに座り、親子で試合出場をするのが特徴です。しかし、試合だけではないのがこの大会の魅力と言えます。会場内にブースが出展されたり、イベントが行われ、いわば柔道のフェスのような感じでとても楽しいのです。
例えば畳製作会社の指導によるミニ畳作成ワークショップや受け身コンテスト、握力や体力測定、マッサージ体験、クラウンによる大道芸披露、お楽しみ抽選会など。どこも人だかりで大変な盛り上がりでした。その様子からは、柔道は試合だけでなく、いろいろな楽しみ方があるということを教えられ、参考になることばかりです。
会場を歩いているだけで大変勉強になりましたし、柔道の魅力と価値を伝える方法はいくらでもあると背中を押された思いになりました。
勝負の世界で学べることはたくさんある一方、スポーツは勝負だけではなく、多様な価値を持っていると感じます。その魅力を少しでもたくさんの方々に感じていただき、皆さんの成長や社会への還元に少しでも繋がるように努力をしたいと感じました。

Diverse Values
I had the pleasure of teaching at the Sports Hinomaru Kids Kinki Elementary School Judo competition held in Osaka City on January 14th.
What is special about this competition is that parents get to sit in the coaches box and participate along with their child. The fact that this competition is not only about the matches is also part of its appeal. There are exhibition booths and various events making it more like an exciting judo festival.
To give an example, you can make a mini tatami mat at a workshop given by a tatami mat production company. There was an ukemi contest, hand grip and physical strength testing, a trial massage, a street performance by a clown and a raffle.
The place was crowded and there was a lot of excitement.
My take-away was that judo is not just about the matches, there are a lot of other ways to enjoy it. Even just walking around the venue I learned a lot of really useful tips and realized there are so many ways to promote the value and appeal of judo.
There is so much we can learn from competing, but sport is not solely about winning and losing, it really teaches us a lot of diverse values.
I want to make it my job to help as many people as possible experience the value and appeal of judo to better themselves and contribute to society in any way possible.
