ジャイアンツ訪問についても書き添えておきたいと思います。
ジャイアンツは幼い頃からの憧れの球団です。
宮崎出身ですから、子どものときから、何度かキャンプを見学に行っていましたので、
球場に足を踏み入れた瞬間、懐かしさがこみ上げ、子どもの頃の感動が蘇ってきました。
球場には、かわいがってくれていた宮崎のお寿司屋さんの大将が連れて行ってくれていたのですが、大迫力のプロのプレーを夢中で見ていたことを思い出します。
今回、東海大学の先輩である原辰徳監督からご依頼を受け、講演をさせて頂くこととなりましたが、原監督のご厚意により、グラウンド内で練習を一緒に見学することができました。
子どもの頃に戻ったような純粋な感動とともに、プロ野球選手の皆さんの技術力の高さを目の当たりにして、大変な刺激を頂きました。
一方、子どもの頃には感じなかったことも感じました。それは球団の規模の大きさです。
とにかく抱える選手、スタッフを始め、関わる人の数がとても多いですし、
組織としてのサイズが半端なく大きい。
ジャイアンツは突出しているのかもしれませんが、プロ野球という世界のスケールの違いを見せつけられたような気がしました。
このように学ぶ機会を頂けることは大変有難い事ですし、自分自身の糧として今後に大いに生かしていきたいと感じました。
A Wave of Nostalgia at the Giants Camp
I’d like to add a little more about my visit to the Giants Camp.
The Giants have been my favourite team ever since I was little.
Being from Miyazaki I have seen their training camp a number of times since I was a child. The moment I stepped into the stadium I was filled with nostalgia remembering how in awe I had felt when I was young.
The owner of a sushi restaurant in Miyazaki who was fond of me, used to take me to the ball game. I remembered how engrossed I used to be watching a professional game.
At the request of HARA Tatsunori, a senior of mine from Tokai University, I was there to give a lecture. He was kind enough to let me watch the field practice with him.
It was pure excitement, like being transported to back when I was a child and really inspiring to witness the high level of technical skill professional baseball players have.
One thing I had not appreciated when I was a child was the actual size of the team.
The organization is huge when you include the number of people involved, players and staff.
The Giants may be an exception; however, I noticed a real difference in scale in the world of professional baseball.
I’m extremely grateful for this opportunity to learn and I hope I can grow from it and action on it in the future.
