A lecture I gave at V-Varen

２月はふたつのプロスポーツチームで講演をさせて頂く機会に恵まれました。
サッカーＪ２のＶ．ファーレン長崎と
プロ野球の読売ジャイアンツです。
両チームとも私の出身地である宮崎でのキャンプ中におじゃまし、選手、スタッフの皆さんを前に、お話しさせていただきました。
厳しいプロの世界で生きている皆さんに対し、果たして私に何かお伝えできることなんてあるのだろうかと思ったのですが、柔道とオリンピックスポーツについて知っていただきたいと思い、一昨年の東京五輪の経験を中心にお話しさせていただきました。
とにかく緊張しましたが、東京五輪にどんな思いで臨んだのか、国を背負って戦うということはどういうことなのか、私なりの考えをお伝えできたのではないか、と思っています。
両チームで感じたのは、選手の皆さんがとても優しく、非常に紳士的であったことです。
私に対して非常に敬意を持って接してくださり、繊細に気を遣ってくださる姿は感動するほどでした。
こうしたことも含め、私自身非常に学びの多い貴重な経験をさせていただきました。

Training Camp Visits
In February I had the opportunity to give lectures to two professional sports teams.
J2 Soccer League Team V-Varen Nagasaki and Professional Baseball Team the Yomiuri GIANTS
I spoke in in front of the players and staff during their training camps which were being held in Miyazki, my home territory.
I wondered what advice I could possibly give to people who live in a fiercely competitive world . I wanted to tell them about Judo and Olympic sports, so my talk focused mainly on my experiences at the Olympics two years ago.
I was very nervous but managed to put forward my thoughts on what it feels like to take part in the Olympics and compete with the weight of the country on your shoulders.
My time with both teams left me feeling how very kind and gentlemanly they were.
I was very impressed with the respect they showed me and the level of care they took with everything.
I’d like to thank both teams for giving me such a valuable and worthwhile experience.
