先月のことになりますが、８月24日に行われたウクライナの子どもたち対象の柔道教室についてご報告したいと思います。
７月から横浜市は姉妹都市のウクライナのオデーサ市で柔道クラブに通う小学生から高校生までの12人子どもたちと指導者２名を受け入れ、日本財団などと協力して滞在支援を行っていましたが、このウクライナの子どもたちを対象に、柔道教室が開かれ、私は講師として参加しました。（私は日本財団が展開するHEROsのアンバサダーを務めているご縁で講師を務めることとなりました）
当日は、会場となった横浜市の浅野中・高校柔道部をはじめ、近隣の高校生たちも参加し、それぞれ真剣なまなざしで組み合う、非常に楽しい時間となったようです。
私としてはウクライナの子どもたちには、せめて柔道をしている時間だけは悲しい現実から離れ、子どもらしく、のびのびと大好きな柔道に没頭してもらいたいと思いながら、一緒の時間を過ごさせていただきました。
また、今回は羽賀龍之介選手も講師として参加してくれました。
彼は日頃からスポーツを通じた社会貢献活動に熱心に取り組んでいますが、
今回、練習の合間をぬって現役選手である彼が参加してくれたことはとても意義深いことですし、非常に嬉しく思いました。
一方、今回、一緒に来日していた指導者は２人いたのですが、どちらも女性でした。18歳〜60歳の男性はウクライナ国外に出ることが禁じられていますが、その現実を垣間見たようにも思いました。
ウクライナでは依然として厳しい状況が続いていますが、子どもたちが心の底から安心して柔道に打ち込める日が１日も早く来てほしいと、改めて強く願った１日となりました。

Meeting Ukrainian Children
I’d like to share my report on a judo class held last month on August 24th for Ukrainian children.
Since July, Yokohama City has hosted 12 children from primary school to high school age and two instructors who attended a judo club in its sister city of Odesa, Ukraine.
They have been supporting their stay in Japan in cooperation with the Nippon Foundation and other organisations. I participated as an instructor for the judo classes held for Ukrainian children. (I was chosen to be an instructor due to my role as an ambassador for the Nippon Foundation's HEROs programme).
Joined by members of the Asano Junior and Senior High School judo club in Yokohama, where the event was held, as well as high school students from nearby schools, everyone appeared to thoroughly enjoy themselves giving it their all.
As far as I was concerned, during my time spent with the Ukrainian children, I was wishing that at least for that time spent doing judo, they could get away from the sad reality of their lives, and just be children, immersed in the judo they love doing so much.
HAGA Ryunosuke also joined us as an instructor. He is always keen to contribute to society through sport, so it was very meaningful that he took time out from his training to join us as an active and we were very happy that he was able to do so.
However, the two coaches who came to Japan were both women, and it was a glimpse of the reality that men aged between 18 and 60 are prohibited from leaving Ukraine.
The situation in Ukraine remains extremely difficult, but I hope that the day will come again soon, when these children can enjoy judo from the bottom of their hearts with peace of mind.
