東京オリンピックから１年が経ちました。
１年前の今日、８月８日、閉会式が行われ熱戦の幕が下ろされました。
心情的にはもう１年という気持ちもあれば
まだ１年という思いがあるのが正直なところです。
もう１年というのは、
パリ・オリンピックが２年後に迫ってきており、
もう１年経ってしまった、という気持ちがあるからです。
一方、まだというのは、東京オリンピック代表のエンジンのかかり方が
まだまだゆっくりだからです。
オリンピックから次の目標へ向け気持ちを切り替えるには時間が必要です。
金メダリストたちはとくにそうでしょう。
次に向けての起ち上げをゆっくりじっくり進めている彼らを見ると、
まだ１年なんだから当たり前の部分があるよな、という思いになります。
ただし、東京オリンピックがどんな大会だったのかということは、
しっかり振り返っておかなければならないと思います。
課題はどんなことで、レガシーとして遺ったものは何なのか、
オリンピックに関わった人はその責任として、それぞれの立場で考え、
次へと活かしていかなければならないと思います。
私が東京オリンピックを経験して再認識したのは、
オリンピックとは、人と人との連携、連帯があって初めて成功するものだということです。
今、私たちは激動の時代の中にいますが、
どんなに時代が変わり、社会構造が変化したとしても、
オリンピックは、世界中の人々が最高のパフォーマンスをしようと競い合い、
集う場所であることは変わらないはずだということです。
我々はこの本質を忘れることなく、
次の時代へと渡していくことが大切なのではないかと思っています。
オリンピックから１年ということで
感じたことを書いてみました。
A Year on from the Tokyo Olympics
A year has passed since the Tokyo Olympics.
A year ago today, on August 8th the closing ceremony brought the curtain down on the series of hard-fought events.
To be honest, emotionally I feel like, wow, it has been a year already and at the same time, has it only been a year?
I feel, has it been a year already when I think that the Paris Olympics is coming up in just 2 years.
I feel it a year hasn’t been long when I think of the Tokyo Olympic team members and how their drive is still in low gear.
It takes time to re-focus goals after the Olympics, particularly for the gold medal winners.
I feel it has only been a year and that is what is what you would expect when I see them slowly building up to the next thing.
Obviously, it makes sense to look back and analyse what unfolded at the Tokyo Olympics.
What were the challenges and what were the legacies? It is the responsibility of those who took part in the Olympics to consider these issues from their own viewpoints and build on them moving forward.
My experience at the Tokyo Olympics reaffirmed for me that any success begins with people cooperating and collaborating with one another.
Right now we are in an era of great change, however no matter how much times change and society changes the Olympics will always be a place where the people of the world come together and show us their very best performance.
We must never forget the essence of it and be sure to pass this on to the next generation.
My reflections, one year after the Olympics.
