Crowdfunding
As a past competitor, it was a real pleasure for me to see the return of the Kinshuki after a three-year absence.
It was a long-awaited return obviously for the athletes but also for the instructors,
parents and everyone else involved.
Ahead of the competition, organisers of the event,
Nishinippon Shimbun held a crowdfunding campaign for the first time.
Current top judoka and a great number of people, myself included in a small way, contributed.
I can see how this is one possible way to organize a competition in the current climate.
Fantastic work by YOSHIDA Yuya, head of the All Japan Judo Federation Athletes Committee,
who was instrumental in getting support for the event in a number of ways.
In any generation nothing properly gets underway without human connection,
that goes for the Kinshuki too and it’s something we must never forget.
