先日感じたことがあったので書いておきたいと思います。
全日本柔道強化チームは伝統的に強化合宿の際に
メディア公開取材日を設けてきました。
私の現役時代からありましたので少なくとも20年は続いていると思います。
稽古前後に道場で車座になり、選手、監督、コーチ、スタッフが
メディアの皆さんからの質問に応えます。
監督になってから私は、この時間を非常に楽しみにしていました。
正直言いまして、選手時代はあまり得意ではありませんでした。が、
監督になってからは変わりました。
話さなければいけないことを話した後は
自由に話せる時間で最近のスポーツ事情からちょっとした世間話まで
ざっくばらんに話せる時間だったからです。
また、例えばまだ正式発表はできないが
我々がこれから挑戦しようとしていることについて御意見を頂いたり、
記者の皆さんからの要望も伺ったりして
気楽に意見交換ができる場にもなっていたと思っています。
担当記者さんたちは日本柔道を理解してくださっているので説明が要らないことも多く、
ときに厳しい質問や耳の痛い御意見があっても、
むしろそうした客観的御意見を頂けることが
監督として非常に有難い事だと思っていました。
そして、勝手ながらの感覚ですが、
お互いがリスペクトしあいながら取材を行っていたように感じておりました。
オンライン取材がメインになってもう１年以上になります。
我々全日本強化チームは、
合宿や遠征前後にオンラインで取材対応をしていますが、
正直、オンライン対応は言葉のチョイス、空気感、
インタビュー(喋り)の間合いなどやればやるほど難しさを感じております。
仕方ない事と承知の上での正直な気持ちです。
オンライン取材はしばらく続きます。
現在の事態が一日も早く改善し、
再びメディアの皆さんと車座になって
お互いリアルで顔を見て話せる日が来ることを願っています。
Circle time Respect
I’d like to write about something I experienced the other day.
Athletes, managers, staff and coaches have come together at circle time, before and after practice at the dojo to answer questions from the media.
It is something I have really looked forward to since becoming a coach.
To be honest it wasn’t something I particularly enjoyed when I was competing however, that changed when I became a coach.
The reason I enjoyed it was, that once we had discussed whatever points needed to be dealt with, we were able to talk freely about other sports news, current events and general small talk.
We were also able to hear requests from the press and their ideas on how to deal with any challenges we were facing, even if no official announcements had yet been made.
A lot of the time there is no need for explanation as the journalists we talk to have an understanding of judo. At times they ask some tough questions and things that are sometimes hard to hear.
As coach I am really grateful to receive such objective views. I always felt a certain amount of mutual respect during these press conferences.
The All-Japan team, has been doing online interviews for more than a year now both before and after training camps and away events.
I must admit that online interviews are not actually that easy when it comes to the choice of words, the overall atmosphere, and timing of when to speak. The longer this goes on the more difficult it is. This is just my honest opinion. I’m aware that nothing can be done about it.
Online conferences are set to continue for a while longer.
I hope that the current situation will improve as soon as possible, and that we will be able to sit down and talk face to face with the media again.
