先日4月2６日、故郷宮崎県の聖火リレーに参加させて頂きました。
私は宮崎県のアンカーとしてえびの市の最終区間を担当し、
聖火皿に聖火を移してリレーを締めくくる大役を務めました。
聖火ランナーは初めての経験でしたから、
大変光栄で貴重な経験となりました。有り難うございました。
聖火はギリシャを出発し、日本全国を回っています。
私もその一員として聖火を運んだことで
全国のランナーの皆さんや、
リレーを運営されておられる組織委員会や各自治体の方たち、
そして故郷の皆さんとの繋がりを感じることができました。
非常に貴重な経験であり、正直、想像以上の感動を覚えました。
オリンピックというのはやはり単なる競技会ではなく、
沢山の方達の応援とご理解、
ご協力があり、繋がりがあってこそのものなのだと再確認しました。
コロナ禍の中、様々な考え方がありますが、
オリンピックに直接関わる我々はやはり、
スポーツを通して生まれる人との繋がりと、そこから生まれる感動を
一人でも多くの人にお届する役割があるのではないかと思いました。
コロナでなければ、この記念すべきイベントを家族にも見せたいと思っていました。
残念ながら連れていくことはできませんでしたが、
宮崎に住む父には見せることができました。
父は聖火を見てとても感動したと言って、喜んでくれたので良かったと思っています。
聖火リレーを進めてくださった関係者の皆さん、
宮崎で応援して下さった皆さん、有り難うございました。
Olympic Torch Relay
On April 26th I had the honour of taking part in the Olympic torch relay.
As the anchor for Miyazaki Prefecture I had the important role of carrying the torch to the final stop in Ebino City where I returned the flame to the cauldron at the closing ceremony.
It was the first time I have ever carried the Olympic torch and it was a great privilege and a wonderful experience. Thank you very much.
The Olympic flame left Greece and is making its way around Japan.
Having had the opportunity to carry the torch I feel a connection to all the other runners across the country, the organizing committee members, local governments and the people in the towns and villages it passes through.
It was an extremely valuable experience and to be honest it had a much greater effect on me than I imagined it would.
It reaffirmed for me that the Olympics is not simply an athletic competition.
It is dependent on the support, cooperation, connection and understanding of a huge number of people.
Due to Covid-19 there are a lot of differing opinions, however as someone who is directly involved, I feel that it is our role to create those connections between people through sport and wow as many people as possible.
