今回、大会日程を調整するにあたって
強化選手や関係者に対し、どのような日程であれば
納得して準備をして臨めるか、事前に聞き取り調査を行いました。
その結果、講道館杯は従来の予定通りでの開催となりました。
この講道館杯は強化選手を選考するための大会であり
日本柔道の未来を作る非常に重要な大会です。
今年は日本柔道が前へ進んでいることを示すためにも
なんとかして開催に漕ぎ着けたいという思いを強くしています。
代表選考が唯一残っている東京五輪男子66kg級は
12月のグランドスラム東京が選考対象大会となりました。
代表は4月の全日本選抜体重別選手権後に決定する予定でしたが、
大会が延期となったため、ここに設定しました。
GS東京については、先日主催する国際柔道連盟から
国際大会開催にあたっての概要が発表され、大会実現に向けて大きく前進しました。
これは国際柔道連盟から世界の柔道関係者にあてた
リスタートのメッセージであるとも思います。
我々も柔道を止めないために、できることから積み上げていかなければなりません。
その思いを今改めて強くしています。
万が一GS東京が中止になった場合は代表選考を先送りせず、
事実上の選考対象である丸山城志郎と阿部一二三両選手によるワンマッチで
決着をつけたいと考えています。
我々全日本男子強化チームとして年内に決定して
東京五輪への準備を本格化させさせたいと考えているためです。
これについては丸山、阿部両陣営にも聞き取りを行い、
我々と同様の意向を示しています。
いずれにせよこれは何度も言っていることですが、
選手と関係する皆さんの健康と安全が最優先です。
その中でwithコロナの時代に柔道を前に進めるため、
あらゆる努力をしていきたいと思っています。

Forging a Future
We carried out a survey among the national team and everyone involved, to find out what which dates would be the most suitable in terms of preparation time for this year’s competitions.
Taking into account the results of that survey it was decided that the Kodokan Cup would go ahead as scheduled.
The Kodokan Cup is a pivotal event in Japanese judo as it also a selection competition for a place on the national team
I also feel it is very important to hold this event to show that Japanese judo is moving forward this year.
An athlete will be chosen for the one remaining event which has not yet been decided, the men’s -66kg in the Tokyo Olympics. December’s Grand Slam event will be the qualifying event for a place.
Originally athlete selection was planned to take place back in April at the National Weight category Champions however the event was postponed.
Progress is being made in view of holding the Tokyo Grand Slam after a request was announced the other day by the organizers, the International Judo Federation to hold an international competition. I believe this is a message from the International Judo Federation to the judo world, that it is time to restart. I feel strongly that we need start building on the things we can do to keep judo going.
In the event that the Tokyo Grand Slam is cancelled we will not delay athlete selection any longer.
We will choose the winner between de facto top athletes MARUYAMA Joshiro and ABE Hifumi.
Our aim is to have the National Men’s team decided within the year so that we can begin proper training in the run up to the Olympics. Both Maruyama and Abe are in agreement with this decision.
Just to reiterate, our first priority is always the health and welfare of our athletes and staff. We will continue with our efforts to carry judo forward living with Covid-19.
