3日間に渡って行われたグランドスラム大阪が終わりました。
最終日の今日、男子は90kg級、100kg級、100超級の3階級が行われました。
本日も日本代表へ御声援を頂きましてありがとうございました。

90kg級は結果の通り、非常に厳しい戦いだったと思います。
今大会、強豪が出場していない中で
決勝進出者を出すことができなかったことを考えると来年の東京五輪へ向け、危機感を強くしたところです。
しかしながらこの階級は近年、五輪、世界選手権では毎回上位に上がる選手が変わる、大混戦となっていますので、その混戦を制すことができるよう、
強化を進めていく所存です。
100kg級においては羽賀龍之介が優勝を収めました。
ベテランらしい隙の無い柔道で試合を組み立てていたこと、一本を取る技を持っていることの強さを示してくれました。
五輪代表候補上位の2人、ウルフアロン、飯田健太郎はともに3位となりました。
場外際の攻防や指導の出るタイミング等、難しい試合もありましたが、現在のルールは何があるかわからないといったところもありますので、そうした面をきっちり詰めていく必要性を感じたところでもあります。
100kg超級は原沢久喜の欠場によって出場権を得た太田彪雅が準優勝を果たしました。
あと一歩のところで優勝を逃したことは
チャンスを生かしきれなかったとも言えますが、準備期間が短い中で日本人最高の成績を残したことを次につなげていって欲しいと思います。
今大会は東京五輪の代表選考大会となっていましたが、男子は選考該当者なしという結果となりました。
一方で来年に向け、代表の陣容については
ある程度見えてきたというところもあります。
ただし、選手たちは己の人生をかけ、
強い気持ちで東京五輪へ向けて準備しているわけです。
勝負の世界は何があるかわかりません。
私としては、これからも選手たちの戦いを見守っていきたいと思います。

Final Day of the Osaka Grand Slam
The three-day Osaka Grand Slam competition has come to a close.
Three events took place today in the men’s;
The -90kg, -100kg and +100kg categories.
A big thank you again to everyone who came who came and cheered on Japan today.

As the results show the -90kg category was a fiercely fought match.
I got a feel of how critical things are ahead of the Olympics, in this category with no powerhouse athletes taking part and no Japanese members in the final.
In recent years, the athletes taking part in this category change often and the matches themselves in the Olympics and at the World Championships are very closely fought. We need to train our athletes to be prepared to win under such conditions.
In the-100kg category Ryunosuke Haga took gold.
He approached the match using his experience to show us seamless judo and how powerful the ippon technique can be.
Aaron Wolf and Kentaro Iida both highly ranked candidates for the Olympics took joint third.
Some matches were difficult in terms of offense and defense off the mat and the timing of coaching etc. With the way the current rules are it’s hard to know what might happen. I feel the need to look more closely at those points.
With the absence of Hisayoshi Harasawa, Hyoga Ota took part in the +100kg category winning second place.
He could be criticized for not making the most of chances that came his way as he was so near winning but I feel that being the leading Japanese judoka in his category is a good result after only a short time training and is something I hope he will carry forward into his next match.
This competition was also to select representatives for the Tokyo Olympics however in the end nobody made the selection cut.
However, looking ahead to next year I do have a better feel for the team we need to put together.
