ミャンマーでは大変嬉しい再会がありました。
2002年釜山アジア大会無差別で対戦した
Yan Naing Soeさんとお会いしたのです。
当時、Yanさんは73kg級でしたが、
現在は100kg級で、
警察に務めながら選手を続けています。
2016年リオ・オリンピックにも100kg級代表として出場し、
今回のジャパンカップにも出場されていました。
しかもジャパンカップには息子さんも一緒でした。
また、今回はナショナルチームの皆さんとの交流の時間もあり、
私もガチンコで稽古をすることになりました。
組み合って稽古をつけるのは
本当に久しぶりだったのでかなりキツかったのですが（汗）、
やはり、ともに組み合い汗を流すことで、
言葉や文化の違いを超えて、通じ合えることがあると実感できました。
スポーツの持つ力はやっぱりすごい。
そして柔道の力もやっぱりすごいです。
皆さん、本当に有り難うございました！！
Reunion and full on practice!
In Myanmar I had the great pleasure of meeting again my opponent from the 2002 Asian Championships open category in Busan, Yan Naing Soe.
Back then Yan was in the 73kg division but is now in the 100kg division.
He is still practicing judo while working as a police officer.
He took part in the 100kg event at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics and in this year’s Japan Cup. It was great to see that his son was also participating in the Japan Cup.
I was able to spend time with the national team and did a full-on practice with them.
It was the first time in a while that I had practiced with a partner and to be honest it was really hard, however by practicing together I was able to experience a mutual understanding with my partner despite our differences in language and culture.
The power of sport is truly amazing!
