先日、じっくりお話をうかがった方がいます。
新潟綜合警備保障株式会社の廣田幹人社長です。
初めてお会いしたのは15年ほど前。
2004年10に起きた新潟県中越地震の被災地に
私の恩師の山下泰裕先生とともにうかがったときのことでした。
あれからご縁がつながり、現在は私の後援会の会長として強力にサポートいただいています。
廣田社長にはこれまでたくさんのお話をうかがっているのですが、
先日、とても心を打たれたのは、
一企業のトップとして心がけていることは何ですか？ という質問への答えでした。
それは「人の善なるところを見る」。
一組織の社長ともなると、日々、難しい局面に立たされるけれども、
どんなときも、人の善きところを見つけて少しでも前へ進む。
そして、自分自身が苦労をかってでても新しいことに挑戦を続けることが、
ひいては社員や会社の成長にもつながるとも考えている、とも。
廣田社長にこういうしたお話を聞くたび、温かく誠実なお人柄に心打たれると同時に、
私ももっともっと成長したい、己の道を切り開いていきたいという思いが強まります。
柔道、あるいはスポーツという世界の外からの視点を教えていただくことで、
私自身、柔道人である前に、ひとりの社会人であり、
節度ある行動をとらなければいけないとも教えられる思いがします。
廣田社長からは本当に沢山のことを教えていただいています。

Finding the Good in People with President Hirota
I had a long talk with a certain someone the other day.
I sat down with the president of
Niigata SOHGO SECURITY SERVICES Co., Ltd., Mikihito Hirota.
The first time we met was about 15 years ago.
It was after the Niigata Chuetsu Earthquake in October of 2004 when I visited the affected area with my former instructor, Yasuhiro Yamashita.
We’ve kept in touch since then, and he has been actively supporting me as the chairman of my Supporters Association.
I’ve listened to many of President Hirota’s talks, but the words that really impressed me the other day was his answer to the question “What do you always keep in mind as the top of a large company?”
He said, “I always look for the good in people.”
Once you become the president of an organization, you will be faced with a lot of difficult situations, but you have to always find the good in the people you are dealing with and move forward little by little.
He also thinks that continuing to challenge new things himself,
even if it brings him more hardships, will in turn lead to the growth of the company and its employees.
Every time I hear words like this from President Hirota,
I’m not only impressed by his warm and genuine personality,
but it also makes me feel like I need to improve more and more,
clearing the path before me in life.
Getting to hear from someone outside of the world of judo, or rather sports, really makes me think about what I need to be doing not as a person of judo, but as a member of society.
I always learn a lot from President Hirota.
