体重無差別で争われる全日本柔道選手権が
4月29日（日）、東京・北の丸公園にある日本武道館で開催されます。
今年は全国の予選を勝ち上がった40名と
昨年の優勝者である王子谷剛志、
前年の世界選手権優勝者に与えられる推薦枠で
髙藤直寿（60kg級）と橋本壮市（73kg級）の計43名が出場します。
今年は王子谷の3連覇がかかっており、
バクー世界選手権とジャカルタ・アジア競技大会の100kg超級代表の
最終選考会となっていますので、代表候補選手たちの試合にも注目です。
そして髙藤と橋本がどんな試合を見せるのか、
彼らの真剣勝負にもまた、期待したいと思います。
体重無差別の大会には、
階級別とはまた違う面白さがあります。
「柔よく剛を制す」と言ったりもしますが、
小さい者は大きい者に対し、あの手この手で攻め、
大きい者は力でねじ伏せ…とそれぞれが自らの体型を生かした柔道を展開します。
その違いを見るだけでも面白く、
毎年、そうきたか！ とうならされる試合がいくつもあります。
また、全日本選手権は柔道家であれば、
誰もが一度は出てみたいと憧れる日本最高峰の大会。
厳しい予選を勝ち抜いた猛者が集う大会ですから、
出場することは、そのまま日本のトップ選手の証明でもあると思います。
柔道選手である以上、是非とも目指してほしい大会でもあります。

July 29th is the All Japan Championships!
The All Japan Championships,
in which athletes compete regardless of weight class,
is going to be held in the Nippon Budokan in Kitanomaru Park,
Tokyo on April 29th.
This year, a total of 43 athletes will be participating, including Takeshi Ojitani,
who came out on top of 40 athletes all over Japan in the preliminaries
and was last year's champion,
as well as Naohisa Takato (-60kg weight class)
and Soichi Hashimoto (-73kg weight class)
who both won the title of champion in their respective weight classes
in last year's world championship, earning them the right to enter this competition.
This year, not only is Ojitani's 3rd consecutive win on the line,
but this is the final chance for ＋100kg weight class athletes
to earn the right to participate in the Baku World Championships
and the Jakarta Asian Games, so the candidates to earn these rights
are going to be attracting a lot of attention.
I'm also expecting to see great matches from Takato and Hashimoto.
Non-weight class divided tournaments have different appealing factors than usual.
It's said that "soft and fair goes far," but in these competitions,
the smaller guy uses his speed and flexibility whereas
the bigger guy uses his overpowering strength in a battle between body types.
Seeing the difference in approaches is so interesting to watch,
and every year there are several matches that take me by surprise.
This tournament is a top-class tournament in Japan
that is so amazing that every judoka in the AJJF dreams of entering it.
Being a tournament filled with courageous athletes
who survived fearsome preliminaries is proof enough
that each and every participant in this tournament is a top-class athlete in Japan.
It's definitely a tournament I want any judo athlete to aim for.
