明日から開幕するグランドスラム・デュッセルドルフを前に、
先々週のグランドスラム・パリで感じた
世界の動向について書いておきたいと思います。
グランドスラム・パリに出場した日本チームのメンバー
大会全体としては、
各国とも、例年に比べてやや遅めの起ち上げになっている印象を受けました。
これには二つの理由があると思います。
一つはルール改正の影響です。
新ルールは、1月から適用が開始されたばかりであるため、
ジャッジの基準が定まっているとは言えず、
どうしても試合によってバラツキが出てしまいます。
そのため、無理して出場しないという選択をした選手もいたでしょうし、
出場したとしても、本腰を入れるのはまだ先で
今は試運転というところなのだと思います。
もう一つの理由はＩＪＦポイントです。
東京五輪の出場資格に反映されるＩＪＦポイントは、
5月のワールドツアーから適用されるるため
2020年への本格スタートは、
5月からと考えている選手（や国）も多いのだと思います。
しかしながら世界は動いてます。
大切なのは周りに惑わされず、己のやるべき事をやる事です。
デュッセルドルフでも日本選手たちがどのような姿勢で臨むのか、
そしてどんな収穫を得られるのか、
ジャッジの判定基準はどのようなところに設定されるのか、
しっかり見極めたいと思います。
Trial Run
I'd like to write what I felt about the world trends at the Paris Grand Slam the week before last.
The athletes who participated in the Paris Grand Slam,
I got the impression that each country was a little slower to participate in tournaments this year than other years.
I think there are two reasons.
One of the reasons is that they were affected by the rule changes.
The new rules just started being used in January, meaning that the judges' criterion for judging is not quite fixed yet, which is sure to result in variations in judgments.
Because of this, I'm sure several athletes decided not to risk competing,
and I think that for many of them this is more of a trial run, so the time for them to get serious about this year has still to come.
I think one more reason is the IJF points.
The IJF points that affect athlete's ability to enter the 2020 Olympics don't start until the World Tour in May, so I think that for many athletes (or countries) the real start of the year is May.
However, the world is still moving while people are waiting.
The important thing is to not get confused by those around you and do what you know you need to do.
I plan to watch closely to see how our Japanese athletes approach the Dusseldorf competition and how well they will succeed, as well as in what way the judges' criterion will be set.
