選手を引退してから、世界各地で
柔道教室を行ってきました。
本当にありがたいことに、
どこへ行っても歓迎して頂き、
そのたびに柔道の力を感じます。
文化や宗教、人種、そして国が違っても、
柔道が少しでも上手くなりたい、
強くなりたいという気持ちで
つながることができるといつも感じます。
10月10日〜13日の日程で訪れた中国でも
そのことを強く感じました。
世界中では実に多くの日本人柔道家が、
その土地に根を下ろし、
柔道の普及・発展に貢献されています。
今回の交流事業を発案され、
現地で大変お世話になった相園英速さんもその一人です。
相園先生が館長を務めている上海龍心館道場にもおじゃましました
I had the pleasure of visiting Ryushinkan Dojo, where Sensei Aizono teaches.
23年ほど前に中国に渡り、現地法人に勤務する傍ら、
上海で龍心館道場を運営し、
柔道を通じた日中友好に貢献されてきました。
その功績が認められ、上海総領事章を叙勲され、
私たちの滞在中には表彰式も行われました。
相園先生、おめでとうございます！
今回は現地のみなさんとの懇親会も設定していただきましたが、
相園さんが、
中国の皆さんと信頼関係を結び、
エネルギッシュに、そして力強く、
行動される姿に、深い尊敬の気持ちを抱きました。
今回の訪問は、このように異国の地で
柔道普及にあたっている方たちの力の大きさを
改めて考える機会にもなりました。

Energetic and Powerful!
Since retiring from being an athlete,
I've taught judo classes in several parts of the world.
I'm really grateful that, wherever I go,
people are so welcoming and I can really feel the power of judo.
I always feel that, no matter how different our cultures, religions, or countries are, people are connected by even the slightest interest in getting better at judo.
I definitely felt this way when I visited China from October 10th until the 13th.
There are actually quite a number of Japanese judokas all around the world who take root in a place and do their part to spread and popularize judo.
Hidetoshi Aizono, who helped us out a lot with our cultural exchange project this time, is one of those people.
About 23 years ago, he crossed the ocean to China and supported Japan and China relations by running Ryushinkan Dojo in Shanghai while working at an overseas company.
His efforts were rewarded when he was given an award from the consulate-general of Japan in Shanghai, and they held an award ceremony for him while we were there.
Congratulations, Sensei Aizono!
We had a get-together set up with everyone there, and I was filled with respect for Aizono after seeing the way he built such a relationship of trust with the Chinese and how he was so energetic and powerful in the way he took action.
This visit was a good opportunity for me to think again about just how powerful people popularizing judo while stationed in different countries can be.
