The conversation with the doctor moved onto the surgery and treatments going forward. He asked if I had any preference for reference to large hospitals since the surgery couldn’t be done at the clinic.
I didn’t understand what anything meant. The words the doctor was speaking, the situation I was placed in.
The first thing that crossed my mind was, “does that mean I can’t go to London?” I wondered if it was still possible.
My brain fogged, I headed back home to my parents. I was waiting at a crossing when an old lady came up to me and told me I had beautiful legs. I don’t know why I remember this so vividly, probably because it was the only thing that made me smile that day and I appreciated it.
