It was yesterday. After having lunch, I went to see a friend’s live performance.
It had been a while since I’d been to a gig. It started with a solo acoustic set,
followed by a duet, and finished with a trio. It was a really enjoyable performance. When I stepped outside, the police were on high alert all over the place. I wonder what had happened.

A little while ago, as I was walking up Dogenzaka, I saw someone pushing a hand-cranked wheelchair ahead of me. Just as I thought, “That looks tough,” a young woman came up from the side and said, “Let me push that for you.” She then asked, “Where are you headed?” I was truly impressed by how she offered her help without a moment’s hesitation. I had been watching from a distance, thinking how difficult it must be to climb those bumpy cobblestones. It made me feel relieved and happy to realize that there are people in this big city who can do something like that so effortlessly. It wasn’t a matter of mustering up courage—her body just moved naturally. This encounter made me want to become that kind of person, even starting right now.

Today is a day I’ll never forget. I’m trying to keep my mind calm. I head home, glancing at the tempting beer hall along the way. The morning was cool, and the weather was relatively pleasant.

A light drizzle fell this morning, which felt kind of nice. After that, it stayed cloudy, and the temperature stayed on the cooler side. On my way home, I quickly wolfed down some abura soba and hurried back. The weather was a bit dreary. To refresh my spirits, I took a bite of ice cream.

It was so hot I stayed indoors. I bought a bunch of drinks at Lawson and enjoyed them at home. Summer is in full swing.

This morning got off to a somewhat more comfortable start. After finishing work, I stopped by Ginza to take a breather. The streets are packed with people, so I don’t feel like going out anywhere. Since I’ll have more opportunities to go out this month, I’ll spend today quietly.

The sweltering season is really kicking into high gear. It’s just so muggy. If it’s like this in July, I can’t even imagine what August will be like. I know it’s summer, so there’s nothing to be done about it, but it’s really tough when the temperature keeps staying above my body temperature. I had some hot ramen, took a shower, and ate some ice cream, and that finally calmed me down. Phew.

Wednesday. It’s usually “Curry Day,” but the set-meal restaurant was closed for the day, so I had to give it a pass. After work, I had my usual drink—a Wednesday 29th staple. It’s hot today, sure, but the humidity is a bit lower, so it really feels like summer. The sky is dotted with late-summer clouds, though.

Yesterday morning, the temperature was on the cooler side, making for pleasant weather.
It looks like it rained, and Mr. Moyai 🗿 was soaked to the bone. Thank you for your hard work on the neighborhood watch patrol.
By evening, the temperature rose, and the air became muggy.
At 4:47 p.m., an earthquake alert came in. Unfamiliar numbers appeared on the screen for the Kyushu region. It’s the first Kumamoto earthquake in 10 years. I hope everyone is safe. I wonder if the castle is okay. I’m worried about the Aeon Mall, which has been shown repeatedly on TV. Natural disasters strike just when you’ve forgotten about them❢

I headed to Meguro for the first time in a while. To my surprise, there was a sign saying “Temporarily Closed.” So I changed course and went to Shinagawa instead. I got a seat right away without having to wait. I ate until I was stuffed, then sat at my “secret base” tapping away on my laptop. For dinner, I went to a nearby Chinese restaurant—just barely making it in before lunch ended.
A day of eating my fill.
