先日のA.W.主催第３５回オークションに出品されたメダルのスラブに
MUDIE'S NATL SERIESと表記されていましたが、これは
Mudie's National Series of Medals、あるいは、単にMudie's National Medals
英国王ジョージ３世崩御に伴いJames Mudieが公表した４０枚の銅製メダルを指します。

ジョージ３世時代の戦勝などを記念するメダルであり、少数ながら銀製も製造されています。

ジョージ３世の治世（１７６０～１８２０）はナポレオン・ボナパルトの
司令官（１７９５～１７９９）・統領（１７９９～１８０４）・皇帝時代（１８０４～１８１５）
に重なるため、ナポレオン戦争（１７９６/１８０３～１８１５）での戦勝を記念するメダル
が多数を占めています。
歴史上極めて有名な司令官、例えば
海で連戦連勝であったHoratio Nelson
最終決戦ワーテルローの戦いでナポレオン１世を打倒したArthur Wellesley
の肖像が描かれたメダルが含まれることも特徴です。
国王や皇帝など一国の君主ではなかった人物のメダルを入手することは困難ですので
メダル・コレクターにとっては貴重なシリーズと言えるでしょう。
