Tour to Europe #18
This is the end of the tour at last.
The team and individual finals are to be held on the last day.
From Japan, there aren't any teams qualified, but 6 pairs are running in the individual.
The team final of the EO is competed by the original relay system.
It's been a specialty of the EO since it was first introduced in 2011 in Austria.
The course is unusual, and must be very difficult to design. Especially for the combined team of small and medium, it has to be designed so that the hurdles jumped by a size group aren't jumped by the other one.
The course walking time is long, 20 minutes, but during that time, the teams have to decide who will run which part.
They might discuss something like, pairs with running contacts would run the part to go straight after the dogwalk, and pairs with 2 on 2 off would run the part to turn at a sharp angle after the dogwalk.
Other judges beside the main judge and the second judge of the team final are in charge of the start and goal of each part.
ようやく、この旅の終着点までたどり着いた。
最終日は団体と個人のファイナル
日本からは、団体戦には残れなかったが個人の部に6ペアが参加する。
ヨーロピアンオープンの団体戦は独自のリレー形式で競い合う。
2011年オーストリア大会で初めて採用されて以来、EO の名物となった。
コースが特殊でありデザインするのが大変だったと思う。特にスモール、ミディアムの混合チームはハードルが重複しないように考えないといけない。
検分時間は各20分と長いがその間にチーム内でどのパートを誰が走るのかを決める。
ランニングコンタクトのペアはドッグウォーク後、前方に進むようなパートを担当し2 on 2 offのペアはドッグウォーク後鋭角にターンするパートを担当させるとか検討するのかもしれない。
団体ファイナルのメインジャッジとセカンドジャッジ以外のジャッジは各パートのスタートとゴールを担当する。
The audience got really excited with the speedy development from the start of the first pair to the goal of the last one.

The first, second and third places are called after each class, followed by their victory lap in the field!!
I hope Japanese team will be qualified to this final stage next year.

A long course of over 180 meters, no place to take breaths. A tough course that requires to run through.
全長180メートルを超えるロングコース、息継ぎの出来ない ほぼ走りっぱなしのタフなコースだ。

リンクスタッフに声をかけ、初日からサブジャッジとして支えてくれたChristian とガッチリ握手を交わしリンクの中へ入る。
Take the position and look around.
Huge audience.
The white dog is already waiting at the start.
Confirm the locations of the obstacles in the ring.
Ground keepers, OK.
Timer, OK.
Confirm if we are all ready with Christian with our eyes.
The whistle resounds in the quiet venue.
ポジションに立ち、ぐるりと周りを見渡す。
大観衆だ。
スタート地点には既にホワイトドッグがスタンバイしている。
リンク内の障害の配置を確認。
グランドキーパー OK
タイマー. OK
そして、サブジャッジのChristian と目で 準備 OK を確認。
静まった会場にホイッスルの音がよく響いた。

The closing ceremony, one of my challenges is accomplished.
One month in Europe. It seems long but it's gone by so quickly.
閉会式を迎え、こうして私のチャレンジが一つ終わった。
長いようで、あっという間のヨーロッパでの一ヶ月だった。
Tour to Europe #17
The second day of the European Open.
I am in charge of judging the individual large jumping.
I was expecting a high clean run rate, and if so, the match will depend on how much time they can shorten.
To go to the final, you have to rank high in the individual Agility or the individual Jumping. To get the best total result in each country is another way to go to the final of course.
Everybody there should've had the ability to make a clean run if it were usual, but various kinds pressure and the willingness to attack led to unexpected errors, and some of them might have failed.
Whether to make the dog turn inside or outside at #13 jump after the slalom,
If they want to shorten the time, they may take the outside.
If the dog can make a tight turn outside on #13, #14 and #15 will be a straight line.
But if the turn becames wide, the line will be disordered, and that may cause a bar or a refusal or a bad position at #16.
ヨーロピアンオープン2日目
この日の担当審査は個人ラージのジャンピング
完走率は高いだろうと予測したが、そうなると皆タイムをどれだけ詰めてくるかという事になる。
ファイナルへ進出するためには、個人アジリティもしくは個人ジャンピングで上位を取らないといけない。もちろん、各国内の総合成績トップを取る事もファイナル進出方法のひとつである。
通常なら、なんなくクリアする力は皆持ち合わせているのだろうが、様々なプレッシャーや攻める気持ちが思わぬミスを誘い、泣いたペアもいた事だろう。
スラロームの後の13番ハードルを内に回すか外に回すか
タイムを詰めたいと思えば外に回してくるかなと
13 番を外に 小さく回せば14番、15番は一直線上にラインが出来る
ただ、外に膨らんでしまったらラインが乱れバーを、スカしたり16番で良いポジションが取れなくなる
It wasn't so hot that day, but the wind was very strong.
その日は暑さはそこまでなかったが、とにかく風が強かった。
The wall couldn't stay without holding it. The sand blown up by the wind kept coming into my eyes even with my sunglasses on.
I was still pleased to see the world top hanlers and dogs at as closest one can be.
レンガも押さえていないと倒れてしまう。サングラスをしていても吹き上げられた砂が目に入ってくる。唇も日焼けと乾燥で割れてしまった。
そんな中ではあっても、世界のトップハンドラーと犬の走りを一番近いところで見る事が出来るのは幸せだ。
One of the most impressive pairs was Elicia and Tobie. I've been seeing Elicia every year in Denmark. In fact, I saw her there this year too.
Her runs are always great.
But this year, her condition didn't look good. She even had a difficulty in walking. In Denmark, she cancelled most of the runs, and I was worried how she would do in the EO.
That Elicia challenged my course.
It is invariable principle not take personal feelings or preconceptions when you judge. But this time, I couldn't help hoping she would run till the end. Splendidly, Elicia and Tobie completed the course beautifully without any faults. The audiences applauded her as she left being supported by others.
She is truly a great handler.
特に印象に残ったのは、アメリカのエリシアとトビーのペアだった。エリシアとは毎年デンマークで会ってたし、今年もデンマークで一緒だった。
いつも、素晴らしい走りを見せてくれる。
ところが今年は、体調が悪そうで歩くのさえままならぬ様子だった。デンマークでは殆どの競技をキャンセルしておりEOでは大丈夫なのか？と心配していた。
そのエリシアが私のコースに挑んできた。
結構脚を使う所があるコースだったし、大丈夫なのかと不安もあった。
審査する時、私情や先入観を入れないというのが鉄則である。しかし、この時ばかりは最後まで走り切って欲しいと思った。
結果、エリシアとトビーは、見事にノーミス で綺麗に走り切った。ゴールして皆に支えられて出て行く姿に会場から拍手喝さいが湧き上がった。
本当に偉大なハンドラーだ。
The competition for the day was finished, and I took a long rest that day.
The next day is finally the last day of the European Open.
競技終了し、その日はホテルでゆっくり休んだ
明日は、いよいよヨーロピアンオープン最終日だ。
