Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo believes that Asia is the territory in which contemporary art will undergo the major transformations in the next two decades. This geographical context will generate new rules within the artistic creativity. There have been numerous exhibitions about China, but what this institution intends to develop is different, it focuses on analysing the anxiety, the relationships and the similarities that exist between Chinese, Korean and Japanese artists, through a contemporary art exhibition.

The history of these countries, is indeed interlaced in more than one occasion and the consequence is a hybrid language, while at the same time the artworld mirrors the very diversity between these three different identities.

Our project would like to embrace all these diversities, to compare them to the western context.

This exhibition will be as a great trip within the most contradictory and experimental Asian realities.

2094 CHINAJAPANKOREA will be the first exhibition which will compare the works by established and recent generation of Asian artists, grown up within contexts where the feeling of inferiority towards western reality has disappeared, on the contrary they are completely autonomous.

Artists’ works will be developed through all media, in particular through photograph, video, installation, but also painting and sculpture will colonize Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo spaces with a new, strong and unpredictable aesthetic.

Both artists established on the international art scene as well as others emerging in their own country, will focus on a transforming contemporary landscape.
