再びステージに上がった加納秀人は、冨士夫さんに微笑みかけ、ストラトキャスターを掴んだ。リハーサル無し、一発勝負のスーパーセッションは、ガン・ファイターのようにギターを低くさげた冨士夫さんのスリージーなカッティングからスタートした。村八分の「逃げろ」だ。

ワイルドでグルーヴィーなカッティングで魅せる山口冨士夫のスリリングなギタープレイと、加納秀人の艶やかで安定感のあるフレージングが鮮やかに絡み合う様は圧巻だ。2人の個性の異なるギタリストが展開する火を噴くようなギターバトルは、やがてクライマックスに達し、そのまま外道の「逃げるな」へなだれ込んで行く。

スタッカートの効いたドラミングとうねるベースラインに牽引された加納と冨士夫は、燃え上がるニヒリスティックなリフを弾き続け、時間の経過には全く無関心なようだ。満面の笑みを浮かべながらギターを弾き合う二人は何とも美しい。夢のような、魔法にかけられたようなひととき......老いと若さが時空を超えて手を触れあっているようだ......彼らはステージ上で一瞬の間、自分たちの若さ、輝いていた青春時代を取り戻しているように見えた。
満場の拍手のなか、加納秀人が外道の松本慎二、そうる透を呼び込み、リズム隊が交代。
「冨士夫とは昔から仲が良いんですけど、お客を前に2人で演るのは初めてです。鎌倉の海辺とかでジャムしたことはあるけれどね。さっきの曲は冨士夫のリクエストで、次も冨士夫のリクエストです。これはおそらく歴史になるかもしれないよ。何故この曲か？それは冨士夫が絶対演りたいって言ったから…いくよ！」
期待ではち切れそうなオーディエンスに向けて放たれたのは、外道の代名詞的な騒乱アンセム「香り」。
ハイエナジーなパワーコードの一斉攻撃。すさまじいエネルギーが押し寄せてくるところでは、興奮せずにはいられない。リズム隊の厚い音の壁を突き破ってうねる2人のギター。ステージはオーバーヒート直前。吹き荒れるフィードバック、連打されるドラム。壮絶なエンディング......雷鳴のような轟音の隙間を突いて、山口冨士夫はヤードバーズの「幻の10年」のギターリフをかき鳴らす。
「ありがとう！ギター、加納秀人さん！ドラムは、そうる透さん！えーと、名前知らないけど、ベーシスト！」
鳴り止まないアンコールの歓声に応えて、山口冨士夫と外道が披露したのは加納秀人が内田裕也に捧げた「ロックンロールバカ?」。そして最後に演奏されたのはクールに熱気をやわらげるスローブルース「いつもの所で」だった。
ライヴが終わった後、ノートにセットリストを書き付けていると、エミリさんがやって来て、うろ覚えだった曲目を教えてくれた。
「今夜のライヴはどうでした？」
「いやー、最高でした。感動しました」
今夜のミッションがひとつ残っていた。読者プレゼント用に冨士夫さんたちのサインをもらわないといけない。楽屋から出て来た冨士夫さんに恐る恐るお願いしてみると、彼は意外にも「いいですよー」と言って、俺から受け取った2枚の色紙にマジックペンですらすらとサインを書いてくれた。
冨士夫さんにお礼を言って、他のメンバーを探す。ベースマンの中島一徳さんは「オレ、サインなんかしたことないよ！嫌だな」と言いながらも、サインしてくれた。ドラムの安藤ナオミさんは「わたし、サイン頼まれたの初めてよ！」と言っていた。ギターのPちゃんは、無言で頷いてサインを書き付けてくれた。
福生に帰る時が来た。写真を撮り終えて、機材をバッグに詰め込んだ野内さんを伴って、お別れの挨拶をするために冨士夫さんの所へ行った。エミリさんと、取り巻きの人たちに付き添われてソファに沈み込んでいる冨士夫さんは、俺と野内さんの挨拶に対して、無言で頷いて応えた。ひどく疲れているように見える冨士夫さんに会釈して、俺と野内さんは「GB」を後にした。
帰りの電車の中で野内さんが言っていたことを思い出す。
「冨士夫ちゃん、あまりギター弾いていなかったね。レンズ越しに見ていて、かなり辛そうだなって思ったよ」
そう言っていた野内さんは病を得て、冨士夫さんより先に逝ってしまった。
すべては天の配剤によることかもしれないが、冨士夫さんの言う通り、神は悪戯が過ぎる。
福生駅前のタクシー乗り場を通りかかるたびに冨士夫さんのことを考えてしまう。そして、「チキンシャック」のカウンターの隅にあるスロットマシンを見るたびにあの日の冨士夫さんの笑顔が目に浮かぶ。運命と闘って勝てる人はいない。それでも闘い続けるしかない。山口冨士夫さんは、彼が生み出した音楽と言葉によって、運命と闘い続ける価値があるということを感じさせてくれた人だった。

Hideto Kano reappeared on stage, smiling at Fujio Yamaguchi and holding a Stratocaster. The one-shot super session without rehearsal began with Fujio's wild guitar playing, strumming the guitar held low like a gunslinger. The super session started with Murahachibu's song called "Nigero".

Fujio Yamaguchi's thrilling guitar playing with his wild and groovy cutting and Hideto Kano's bewitching and stable phrasing are vividly intertwined. A fire-breathing guitar battle performed by two guitarists with different personalities eventually reaches a climax, and it rushes into Gedo’s song called "Nigeruna".

Driven by staccato drumming and rolling basslines, Hideto Kano and Fujio Yamaguchi play blazing nihilistic guitar riffs, seemingly indifferent to the passage of time. The two of them playing the guitar with big smiles on their faces are indescribably beautiful. It's a dreamy, enchanted moment... old men moments and past younger moments touch each other across time and space. For a moment on stage, they seemed to reclaim their youth and radiant adolescence.
The audience erupted in applause, and Hideto Kano called in Shinji Matsumoto and Soul Toul from Gedo, and the rhythm section changed.
“I am an old friend of Fujio, but this is the first time the two of us have performed together in front of an audience. The previous song was Fujio's request, and the next one is also Fujio's request. This could possibly be history. why do we play this song. That's because Fujio said he definitely wants to play it... let's go! ”
The band started playing Gedo's representative song called "Kaori".
It's like a salvo of high-energy power chords. I can't help but get excited when the tremendous energy rushes over me. Two guitars undulating through the thick wall of sound of the rhythm section. The stage is just before overheating. Roaring feedback, pounding drums. And an epic ending...... In the middle of a thunderous roar, Fujio Yamaguchi strums a guitar riff from The Yardbirds' "Happenings ten years time ago "
"Thank you! Hideto Kano on guitar! Soul Toul on drums! Well, I don't know his name, but he's the bassist!"
In response to the endless cheers of the encore, Fujio Yamaguchi and Gedo performed "Rock'n'Roll Baka?", which Hideto Kano dedicated to Yuya Uchida. And the final performance was the slow blues "Itsumono tokorode", which calmed down the heat in a cool way.
After the gig was over and I was writing down the setlist in my notebook, Emily-san came over and told me the songs that I vaguely remembered.
"What did you think of tonight's gig?"
"Well, it was great. I was impressed."
I have one mission left for tonight. I have to get Fujio's autographs as a present for our magazine readers.
When I fearfully asked Fujio-san, who came out of the dressing room, to my surprise, he said, "Sure" and smoothly wrote his autograph on two square drawing cardboards. Thank Fujio-san and then I look for other members.
Bassman Kazunori Nakajima said, "I've never wrote autographs for fans! But It's Okay"
Naomi Ando, the drummer, said, "This is the first time I've ever been asked for an autograph!"
And side guitarist P-chan silently nodded and wrote down his autograph.
t's time to go back to Fussa. I went to Fujio's place to say goodbye, accompanied by Mr. Nouchi who packed his photographic equipment in his bag. Fujio-san, who was sinking into the sofa with Emily-san and his entourage, silently nodded in response to Nouchi-san's and me's goodnight greetings. I bowed to Fujio, who looked very tired. And Nouchi-san and I left "GB".
“Fujio-chan didn’t really play the guitar on stage that much. Looking at him through the lens, I thought it was so painful.”
Mr. Nouchi, who said so, soon diagnosed with cancer and passed away before Fujio died.
Everything that happened may have been a divine providence, however as Fujio says, God is too mischievous.
Every time I pass by the taxi stand in front of Fussa Station, I think of Fujio-san. And every time I see the slot machine in the corner of the Chicken Shack's counter, Fujio's smile on the day I met him for the first time comes to my mind. No one can beat fate. But I still feel like I have no choice but to keep fighting my destiny. The man, Fujio Yamaguchi, via his music and words, made me feel that it was worthy of continuing to fight my destiny.
