アルジェリアで起きた事件で、心痛めている人が少なくないと思います。今まで幾度となく中東やアフリカのイスラム教国を訪問していますが、一般のイスラム教徒は、日本人以上に温厚で親切です。そして、イスラム建築や音楽に代表されるように高い芸術性も持っています。しかし、「欧米支配を脱却し、イスラム原理主義国家を建設するのだ」というスローガンの下、テロ行為に走る過激派イスラム教徒が繰り返し登場してくるたびに、この宗教の核心に「非寛容」という要素があるのではないかと考えてしまいます。国際会議に出ても、イスラム批判は出来ない雰囲気がありますが、そこが問題なのだと思います。日本人として、穏やかに神仏に手を合わせる境遇に生まれ落ちたことを感謝したいと思います。
The incident in Algeria is quite heart-aching. I have visited Muslim countries of Middle East and Africa many times, and have impressions that Muslim people are kind and calm more than Japanese. Islam architecture and music are also remarkable. However, each time when radical Muslims take terrorist actions under the slogan “We beat US & Europe and construct the Islamic fundamental nations!,” I suspect that Islam teaching itself has in the core an element of intolerance. It is difficult to say anything critical against Islam even in academic international conferences, and that is a problem. I feel lucky that I as a mundane Japanese can sustain mild faith in numerous gods and the Buddha.
