Today I went with a group of motorbike riders on a ride from North Hobart to Swansea which is on the east coast of Tasmania. The ride started at 10:00 with a few stops along the way for fuel and coffee.
We went mostly by backroads rather than the main roads.
Some of Tasmania's roads are very good for motorbike riding. Lots of bends and generally not bad road condition.
It was a fine day
There is a big sailing event in Australia that starts on December 26th. It is the Sydney to Hobart Yacht race. Boats in length from 10m to 30m take part. There were over 80 yachts that started the race but a few did not finish. About 70 boats did finish and the last one arrived before New Year's eve. Here is an image of the yachts berthed in Hobart .
The biggest yacht in the fleet and the first one to arrive was the 30m long yacht 'Wild Oats'. The boat is berthed in Sydney but has sailed in many places around the world.
I took this image as the boat was sailing past the south-eastern part of the Tasmanian coast at a place called 'The Iron Pot'.
I just came back home after 3 weeks of working in Japan.
I enjoyed the work making sails and it was good to meet many friends from years before.
I went to Zushi beach last Sunday (November 27th) and there was an event where horseback riders use archery while riding. It is called Zushi Yabusame Warrior Procession. The saddles are traditional-style and the costume of the archers is also traditional hunting style.
It would be very difficult to balance on the horse and do archery. They have to shoot at 3 targets in succession so there is no time to recover from the smallest errors before shooting the next arrow.
There were 4 male riders and 2 women riders.
Yabusame is practiced all over Japan as part of Shinto rituals.
I like the traditions of Japan very much. I hope that Japan can keep it's traditions for the future.
