stratosphere /ˈstrætəsfɪə / に注目します。LDOCE では "the outer part of the air surrounding the Earth, from 10 to 50 kilometres above the Earth" と定義され，『ジーニアス英和辞典』には「〘気象〙成層圏」と記載されています。また，同辞書には成層圏の説明として「対流圏（troposphere）の上の大気層で高度約10－60㎞」との記載が確認できます。
ほかにも，形容詞系の stratspheric で「（天井知らずの）とても高価な」といった意味があります。
この stratosphere に微粒子をまき，人工的に薄い雲を作ることで太陽の光を反射させ，結果として地球を冷やすことができるそうです。依然として問題点が多く存在するものの，神頼みだった天気を人間が操る時代もそう遠くはないのかもしれません。（Aze）
