Asahi Weekly (8/4号) の ‘News at a Glance’ のコーナーに以下のニュースがありました。

 

日本体操協会は体操女子のパリ五輪日本代表の宮田笙子選手(19)の喫煙と飲酒が発覚したため、代表を辞退することを発表しました。

 

Just a week before the start of the Paris Games, the leader of Japan's Olympic women's gymnastics team was forced to pull out after she admitted to underage drinking and smoking.

 

The Japan Gymnastics Association announced the withdrawal of 19-year-old Shoko Miyata on July 19. The association said it received information on July 15 that Miyata had violated the association's code of conduct for athletes. (The Asahi Shimbun AJW)

手持ちのACE CROWN には「引っ込めること、引っ込むこと、(預金)の引き出し、取り消し、撤退、撤回」ありました。

Etymonline で語源を調べると‘1820s, "act of taking back," also "retraction of a statement," from withdraw + -al (2). Earlier words in the same sense were withdrawment (1640s); withdraught (mid-14c.). Meaning "removal of money from a bank, etc." is from 1861; psychological sense is from 1916; meaning "physical reaction to the cessation of an addictive substance" is from 1929 (with an isolated use from 1897; withdrawal symptom is from 1910). As a synonym for coitus interruptus from 1889.’とありました。

 

異例の4人で今大会に挑まなければならない非常事態となりましたが、安定した演技で予選を5位で通過すると、決勝では惜しくも8位という結果で終わりました。(Capricorn)
