mentally-challengedな人を洗濯機に入れた疑いで二人が逮捕されました。

KYOTO -- Two men were arrested here on July 4 on suspicion of injuring a now former coworker with an intellectual disability by forcing him into an industrial washing machine.  Suspects Kazuki Naoe and Yosuke Kamijima, both 37, work at a firm that specializes in washing professional-use items such as tents and mascot costumes. They are accused of together pushing the 50-year-old victim into the washing machine measuring 2 meters in width, depth and height at about 2:30 p.m. on March 26, 2024, at the company in Kyoto's Shimogyo Ward, and turned the machine on.

The suspects have reportedly largely admitted to the allegations.  According to Kyoto Prefectural Police's Shimogyo Police Station, the accused told the victim, "You stink. Get in the washing machine," as they pushed him into it. The victim quit the company after the incident, and went to a hospital to be examined some days later. There were bruises over the man's entire body, particularly on his back. The doctor who saw him contacted police, leading to the incident's discovery.

今回取り上げるのは "stink" /stɪŋk/ です。

LDOCE では "1 to have a strong and very unpleasant smell, 2 spoken used to say that something is bad, unfair, dishonest etc" と定義されていました。

Cambridge Dictionary では "to smell very unpleasant" と定義されていました。

ただこれはstinkだけの問題ではなく,You stink.という言い回し全体をとらえなければなりません。

ネットで語法問題を取り上げているQuoraというサイトの What does it mean to be called “stink” in slang?という項目では,

Being called "stink" in slang can have different meanings depending on the context in which it is used. In some cases, "stink" can be used as a derogatory term to insult someone, implying that they are unpleasant or unlikable. It can also be used to suggest that someone is behaving badly or is in disfavor with others.

However, it's worth noting that the meaning of slang terms can vary between different regions and social groups. In some contexts, "stink" can also be used more playfully or affectionately, especially among friends or in a joking manner. If you provide more context or details about how the term is being used, I can offer a more specific interpretation.
