映画 “Joker” を観た後、「空虚さ」を感じました。
By stripping the Batman mythos of all its familiar trappings, Joker leaves viewers with a tale beamed directly from an unhinged mind. Arthur’s perspective is brimming with twisted urges, delusions, and extreme violence. So moviegoers have nowhere to turn for relief.
unhinged /ənhɪ́ndʒd/ を取り上げます。接頭辞un- があるので否定的な意味を推測しました。
『ジーニアス英和辞典』第４版（大修館）には動詞 unhinge で「＜心＞を乱す、＜人＞を錯乱させる」とありました。unhinged は形容詞で「＜人が＞錯乱して、抑制できない」と記載されています。さらに「Weblio」は「狂気または精神異常により影響を受ける」とありました。Collins English Dictionary は “If you describe someone’s behavior or performance as unhinged, you are critical of it because it seem wild and uncontrollable.” と定義しています。
hinge は「蝶番」のことで、ドアの開閉などを行うために使われる工具の一つです。この意味から比喩的に「…で決まる、…にかかっている」といった動詞で用いられます。つまり、上記で取り上げた unhinged は「留め金がついていない」という意味から「精神状態が不安定な」となります。 (amphibian)
