地元の魅力が沢山詰まった「地元ポッキー」が発売されます。北は北海道から南は九州まで（from Hokkaido in the north to Kyushu in the south）、計8種類のポッキーが誕生します。
The new Pocky is called Tokyo Amazake. Amazake, which literally translates to “sweet sake”, is a traditional drink made from fermented rice. Containing little to no alcohol, amazake is believed to have existed in Japan for over 1,000 years, and while it’s usually served hot in the winter, especially around New Year’s, it’s recently become popular as a health drink.
Tokyo Port Brewery flourished in the late Edo period (1603-1868), but they ceased operations during the Meiji Restoration in 1868. More than a century later, in 2011, the brewery recommenced operations, making it the only brewery located in the 23 wards of Tokyo.

今回、記事の中から取り上げる語は brewery /ˈbruːəri/ です。早速、辞書で調べていきます。
『ジーニアス英和辞典』（第5版 大修館書店）では「（ビールなどの）醸造所［会社］」と載っています。加えて、 brew 単体でも調べてみます。そこでは「（醸造された特定の）ビール、（1缶の）ビール、地ビール」と載っています。
こうなると、 brew と beer 、同じビールでもどのように違うのか気になります。LDOCE を用いて２つの定義を確認していきます。
brew は “a drink that is brewed” と定義されている一方で、beer は“a glass, bottle, or can of beer”と定義されています。brewには元々、動詞で「醸造する」という意味を持ちます。brew には醸造所にて出荷される「ビール」を指し、 beer には飲み屋で提供される「ビール」を指すのではないかと考えました。
ちなみに、brew には「お茶やコーヒー」という意味もあり、イギリスで使われる語です。イギリスとアメリカとで使い分けされているのかも知れませんね。過去にもビールにまつわる投稿がいくつかありました。ぜひご参照ください。
